price of ice time

Recommended Posts

After moving to Florida from eastern canada I was floored to discover the price of ice here. Where I come from the ice time per hour hit 190 and everyone was in crisis mode. Down here 300-350 an hour. Un***king believeable. What's the price around you? and where?

I live in Central Newfoundland right now, ice is about $100/hour here, and gets as low as $70/hour during the "cheap hours" which is normally around 2-4 p.m.

On the Northern Peninsula, where I'm originally from, we pay $97.50/hour, depending on who's working. Most of the time they give us the Birthday Party Rate of $60. :D It's all in who you know, and I know one of the zamboni drivers.

$95 at a downtown rink, you get a full hour and they Zamboni between rental time.

$120 at the student ice arena, you pay for an hour with Zamboni time though.

$Free at the few outdoor rinks in the area. Covered cement rinks that have an adjacent hot house, most get flooded daily. Price is to scrape the ice when you're done. There's one ~2 miles south, another ~5 miles west.

I'm not sure of the price at the 2 or 3 other arenas in the area.

This is in Houghton, MI, home of the WCHA D.1 Huskies.

Usually about $125 or so for an hour with a Zamboni, and there's got to be at least 100 free outdoor rinks in the area with varying quality of ice.

Yeah, we've got the full range. Outdoor rinks wherever there's level surfaces or small ponds, but the ice is usually not good enough to skate on with all the snow we get.

The covered outdoor rinks are township/city run. They mostly have a good main surface, but the edges and corners either ramp from the snow that got flooded or a bad freeze against the wall. A volunteer shows up before he heads into work to check the surface and will flood if it needs it, the cops come around on their beat to turn the lights on and make sure everything's cool.

If you want locker rooms, glass, controlled ice, etc you pay around $100.

Public rinks run from 150-190 prime time cheaper after 11. Price difference is due to size we have an olympic size rink. Then theres a private arena and its under 100 prime time and at night its 70ish the entire rink feels like a high schools boys washroom its horrible ice as well.

If you're talking the Michigan Tech Huskies, aren't they in the WCHA, not the CCHA?

Ice time anywhere from $75 to $150 here in Duluth, MN.

D'oh. I get confused, being from Detroit, grew up with CCHA Big Ten teams.

Local Rinks

120-140 during winter if with minor hockey team,

160-170 during rest of year or if not a minor hockey team.

Get it free in the summer time, Hockey School i work for runs the rink in the summer and it is kind of like a bonus in the pay.

Harbour Station - Where Saint John Sea Dogs play, QMJHL

about 190-210 per hour

i cant imagine paying anymore even for a NHL rink..

"$200 an hour here at the Biddeford Ice Arena in Maine. The Portland Jr. Pirates just opened and brand new rink across town in Saco and the ice is also $200 an hour."

Played in Biddeford over the Christmas break, older rink but for it's age in amazing condition and it is great to see a rink run so well, if you see any of their arena staff, give them the recgonition they deserve.

I'm wondering if the warmer temps actually warrant gouging people for triple the price...and 20.00 for an hour of pick up, or if the warmer temps are just an excuse. I'd definitely like to know the truth behind this.

Definitely harder to keep the ice cool. A few of the rinks shutdown and only open October-April, the college ice runs their coils half the day and let the ice get slushy when it won't be used- they suspend everything except camps and setup events to try and save cooling costs.

Minor hockey rate here in Whitby, Ontario is $175....I get ice just before prime time at 4:15 for $107 tax & insurance incl. Best deal, right after kids season I rent ice at 7am Sundays....great Zamboni driver lets us on as early as we arrive....always get 2 hours at least.

Right now we step out the back door-free is good!
