BigDipper 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 After moving to Florida from eastern canada I was floored to discover the price of ice here. Where I come from the ice time per hour hit 190 and everyone was in crisis mode. Down here 300-350 an hour. Un***king believeable. What's the price around you? and where? davis 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 I live in Central Newfoundland right now, ice is about $100/hour here, and gets as low as $70/hour during the "cheap hours" which is normally around 2-4 p.m.On the Northern Peninsula, where I'm originally from, we pay $97.50/hour, depending on who's working. Most of the time they give us the Birthday Party Rate of $60. :D It's all in who you know, and I know one of the zamboni drivers.
Rustpot 1 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 $95 at a downtown rink, you get a full hour and they Zamboni between rental time.$120 at the student ice arena, you pay for an hour with Zamboni time though.$Free at the few outdoor rinks in the area. Covered cement rinks that have an adjacent hot house, most get flooded daily. Price is to scrape the ice when you're done. There's one ~2 miles south, another ~5 miles west.I'm not sure of the price at the 2 or 3 other arenas in the area. This is in Houghton, MI, home of the WCHA D.1 Huskies. Jarick 5 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Usually about $125 or so for an hour with a Zamboni, and there's got to be at least 100 free outdoor rinks in the area with varying quality of ice.

Rustpot 1 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Yeah, we've got the full range. Outdoor rinks wherever there's level surfaces or small ponds, but the ice is usually not good enough to skate on with all the snow we get. The covered outdoor rinks are township/city run. They mostly have a good main surface, but the edges and corners either ramp from the snow that got flooded or a bad freeze against the wall. A volunteer shows up before he heads into work to check the surface and will flood if it needs it, the cops come around on their beat to turn the lights on and make sure everything's cool.If you want locker rooms, glass, controlled ice, etc you pay around $100. Eternal 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2008 Public rinks run from 150-190 prime time cheaper after 11. Price difference is due to size we have an olympic size rink. Then theres a private arena and its under 100 prime time and at night its 70ish the entire rink feels like a high schools boys washroom its horrible ice as well. bbruins8 0 Report post Posted January 24, 2008 I'm wondering if the warmer temps actually warrant gouging people for triple the price...and 20.00 for an hour of pick up, or if the warmer temps are just an excuse. I'd definitely like to know the truth behind this.

I'd definitely like to know the truth behind this.Definitely harder to keep the ice cool. A few of the rinks shutdown and only open October-April, the college ice runs their coils half the day and let the ice get slushy when it won't be used- they suspend everything except camps and setup events to try and save cooling costs.
