best cheaper end stick

Recommended Posts

I find cheaper sticks load slowly and release slowly. Composites will whip right back, fiberglass seems to bounce back.

The Endure is a great value, not a high performance stick, but incredibly durable. They did run as much as a top end OPS when new.

honestly i think it would be better to get a high end wood stick like a sherwood 9950 or NBH One60 instead of a low end OPS

perhaps, but not many good wood sticks are 85 flex or less

IMO a good ULight w/ a wood blade, AK27, etc.. will be better than any pricepoint OPS. The One60 is a great wood stick but comes in a 102 flex.

The only good wood stick I've found is the Montreal 4400, probably about an 80 flex out of the box, kicks like a tapered shaft, but response is like wood. Everything else is WAY too stiff for me to flex, and that's a big reason I prefer composite.

that is also true. a high end shaft (Z-Bubble, Ultralight, AK27, Dolomite, XXX-lite, One90 etc.) with a good composite or wood blade would also be a nice combo.

The Vapor Shift stick is the best price point stick IMO. Either that or a Sherwood RM7 or RM9. All three are great bang for the buck. High end performance at a midrange to low end price.

that's a mistake a lot of uninformed people make I think. that a cheaper composite stick performs equal or better to a wood stick. in most cases, just sticking with wood is a better choice. there's a reason the Sher-Wood 5030 is one of the best selling sticks around!

The RM9 felt excellent in my hands in terms of balance and weight. Haven't played on ice, but I wouldn't mind checking one out. Forgot about that one.

I really don't like the cheap Eastons or Bauers, although I haven't tried the XXV. That might not be bad either.

The RM7 and 9 are both great sticks, you can find a 9 for below 110 and a 7 for below $99 new. The TPS Response Armor($60)is the very, very best value composite and provides EXCELLENT feel and shooting. I sold my synergy ST because of the Response Armor. The best value for $89 is the bauer vapor XX ($89), which is the same thing as the '06 DOLOMITE, a highly respected $170 stick.

Not too sure about the quality as I have not abused it much yet, but this linked hespeler was 19.99, with a strange gretzky pattern LH offset blade(firewood now) in it. rated as stiff, whatever that means from them. I weight about 190 and have to lean into it to get a good flex out of it. Add a blade of your pattern choice to it and I think you got a pretty decent stick for beer league play for short money. I added a recchi pattern RH vector 2.0 for 14.99 and I like it.

cheap stick

where did you find the Response Armor for $60, I wouldn't mind one of those. Also would the Tkachuk curve be the closest to a Modano/Forsberg type curve?

I just bought 3 sherwood RM7's, my LHS had them in the bargain bin for 50% off. Its funny as the sherwood composites dont sell as good as the RBK, NB, or Easton sticks, however I have found the quality and durability of the Sherwoods to be better than the others. I have used sherwood sticks in some form for most of the time I have played hockey 12+ years. I have on occassion switched and tried other sticks, and always end up going back. Anyhow an RM7 or RM9 would be an excellent choice, better than the NB price point sticks which I have 2 One 70's and dont like them. For now on I will stick strictly to sherwood. BTW does anyone have a hockey supply that deals with alot of sherwood products? I am looking for some RM9 pants and some other protective gear, and sherwood is a tough product to track down at alot of the sites.

thanks,

Casey

Vermette..... good call.

Sherwood RM-9's are the best of the lower/mid end sticks. Under $130 with a better feel than the 300/350's with all Easton patterns available. They hold up pretty well too, depending on the level or league you play in.
