Jofa Gretzky Helmet

unless you are dressing up as him for halloween, just don't wear one. Save your money and your skull and get a real helmet for half the price....a guy fucking died with that helmet on.

As BigDipper said, scour around some used sports stores. I was lucky enough to find a shell (no padding inside) at a PIAS for $10. I bought it, put in some foam, and now I wear it coaching and out on the pond.

What's the story behind the death? I don't doubt it happening, those buckets have as much protection as a salad bowl.

Save your money and your skull
get a wood stick plug, and cut it to size, then stick it inside the helmet from temple to temple...should help stretch it.

???

Anyways, the original poster probably wants this bucket as a collectible, or just for playing around.

explain to me how pushing out the temple portion of a helmet half a centimeter is going to make the helmet any less effective.

I remember seeing it on TV a while back(at least a decade ago), basically some NHLer went head first into the boards and the impact killed him. I will try to find a link.

edit: I can't seem to find a link, I may be confused and perhaps it was not an NHL player but some other league. I recall the name of the guy being european or russian.

Michel Goulet went head first into the board at the Montreal forum back in 94...he didn't die...but he never played again after that. :(

Couldn't have been an NHL'er. The only NHL'er to die from in ice injuries is Bill Masterson, who fell and hit his head on the ice and died from spinal injuries. He wasn't wearing a helmet.
