Canadien OPS spotted!

Recommended Posts

Today when I was at Wal Mart (of all places) I saw that they were selling OPS. First off my mind was blown because Wal Mart was now an OPS dealer. :P

I checked them out and discovered that they were Canadien sticks. They were white with a fade to clear to show the composite blade pattern. The model was the H85 (or something to that effect). The pattern was named a P94 and it was a general mid curve with a touch of loft. There were junior and senior models available (although not very many as the display box was nearly empty).

It felt a little wierd to see OPS in Wal Mart but the prices blew me away. The Senior model was $95 CAD and the Junior model was $80 CAD.

Could we be seeing a more upscale Canadien OPS at LHS to go with The Hockey Company's exclusive deal with the AHL?

I thought they sold off the Canadien name? Legend has been using it for a while now.

I did a google search on The Hockey Company and this entry that seems really recent (it lists THC as a subsidiary of Reebok) says they make products under the Canadien name.

Legend bought Canadian I thought... not Canadien, which is a different company altogether, however I haven't seen there things for a while, but from Chadds link it looks like Legend doesn't own Canadien.

They have both spellings on their site, it's a bit murky.

On Legend's site they have pictures of sticks and blades with Canadian on them yet they have a few graphics with Canadien in them. Very confusing but I highly doubt that Legend is making any OPS. If it takes them two months to get orders of custom blades out then there's no way they are organized enough to fill orders on a scale large enough for Wal Mart.

Okay, I just checked The Hockey Company's minimal web site.

The Hockey Company

In the footnotes it states:

Canadien® is a trademark of KHF Sports OY, a subsidiary of The Hockey Company.

While the information is dated 2002 in the copyrights I would imagine that they would have changed it had they sold Canadien.

The question is: "Are they licensing the name from another company or are they subbing out composite production to someone like Ballistik?" The answer would just create more questions eithr way.

I was at Wal Mart again tonight (long story) so I checked out the Canadien OPS.

The model is the EPH85. The stick is most definitely made by The Hockey Company as I flipped the stick over and saw the warranty information where it lists THC's conditions for replacement, etc. The stick is made in China and it appears to be really close in finishing details, blade thickness, etc. to the Koho Revolution 4490. So, it appears to be a Koho Revolution with a different paint job and graphics.
