stick flex

Recommended Posts

im haivng a bad year, i broke a one90, ccm v10.0, v10.0 shaft, vapor xxxx shaft, a cnt using as a shaft all of em were 85-90 flex. they all broke around the taper of the stick, except for the one90, the blade cracked in half, and the ccm ops whhich broke on the heel of the blade. im 5'7 about 168 pounds. am i using the wrong flêx on my sticks? am i cutting them wrong? they go up to my nose in socks, is t^hat to long? and is the lie im using to low or high? i use a 5 lie sickick and a backup shogun with a lie 6? i dunno what to do because i dont want to keep breaking sticks. should i go to a 75 flex or up to a 90-95?

thanks in advance

adam.

It could be the lie. Do you tape your blades? Does the tape wear out faster on the bottom on the blade at the heel or toe more?

I'm like 2 inches taller than you, same weight, my sticks the same height and I use a 5 lie. I've used 100 flex or better for a long time now and I never break shafts (I'm tryin 85 next). I can't see the sticks being too stiff but maybe with a whippier stick you won't have to put as much into it. It's hard to say, might have to play around with it, if you're breakin sticks ya got nothin to lose.

is it the way that you play? if your sticks are breaking in the taper zone a lot, it could be that you're hacking too much. if that's not the case, i think you're really strong for your weight and should consider moving up a flex, say 100.

How are your sticks breaking? Someone taking a chop at your stick? You taking a chop? Going into the boards? Taking a shot? Breaking it on the cross bar?

My friend was breaking blades every few ice times. I told him to stop slamming the toe into the boards to make noise on the bench and stop slamming the heel down when frustrated or beavertailing for a pass.

His blade has lasted him 2 months since. He has lost his voice once or twice recently, however.

Lesson to learn- are you putting undue wear on the sticks? Flexing them in your house, stickhandling on concrete, lots of stick work, leaning into lots of heavy slap shots?

i tape my sticks from heel to toe, around the toe, so the blade is completely taped. i noticed that it wears on the toe a bit more then on the heel, so i tried using my warrior with the robitaille blade but that doesnt feel rite because i have the blade so close to my body, i feel i loser my shot

for the other questions: i dont hack, i play center though, lots of the sticks broke on one timers, one on a deflection one a guy fell on one got hit with a shot. i dont flex my sticks in the house and io dont dribbnle on cement.

ive debated on going to a standard shaft and blade, would this be a goodidea? i triêd my friends 100 flex warrior and i thought it was a bit to stiff, and it hurt my wrist and elbow... should i go standard shaft and blade or tapered shaft and blade, or just fight it out and figure that im having a bad year? right now i have a sickick and its reg flex but feels a bit stiffer, hope it holds on.

thanks.

I find 2 pieces to be a bit more durable, I'd say try one, tapered will feel closer to your ops's. Get it in 85 flex and if you don't feel comfortable with changing the lie then maybe play around with stick height slightly if you're getting uneven wear.

Most of the time a stick "breaks" on a shot it already had a crack which created a weak spot in the stick. Want to stop breaking sticks, buy more durable sticks and stop playing center.

Exactly, you've been using sticks noted for performance more than durability. Switch to TPS. Also, whippy flex sticks might be a good recommendation since they absorb impact better, I just learned this the other day!
