Kozlov (Viktor) Blades

Recommended Posts

I so what was described as Viktor Kozlov curve. One the fellah had on was made by Warrior. What got my attention is how flat the balde was when on the ice, it was almost flat against the ice for the entire length of the blade, meybe 1/4 inch at the toe and an inch plus at the heel.

I asked the guy if he had ground the blade, as I used to do it with old wood. He said it is how the blade comes and said it is the Kozlov (Viktor) curve he got off the internet. I did some checking, and the onle reference to Kozlov curve was from RBK and it had a 7.5 lie. That is auful. I have never heard of anybody playing with such small angles like that.

Basically, the balde is supre flat on the ice without grinding.

Have any of you heard/used this curve? Is it a myth, lemon, or a real thing? Kozlov is with Capitals now, and the fella with the balde works for their organization. He did say he bought it.....

Many thanks.

Not sure if you have ever seen it, but, it all started with a retarded curve.

If I could attach it...I have a pic of Sasha Ovechkin holding the original Stan Mikita stick. You would get a 10 min penalty for something like this now days.

Found it thanks. I have never seen other Dolomite blades, how flat are they? Not sure I know the proper term here. What mean is, how flat are they against the ice? Is Dolomite blade generally flatter against the ice? I mean, if you follow the proper lie, how much of the blade is touching the ice? If Dolomite are flatter, I would rather get a different curve, other then elongated Kozlov.

Rocker is the term. It refers to the curve of the bottom of the blade. Look at some pro stock blade patterns and you'll see great differences between rocker styles.

Most curves have rockered ends, the heel and toe curve up.

In this picture you can see 3 different styles. The top blade is long and thin, the bottom has a decent, even of rocker. The middle one is fairly flat with a little rocker at the heel and toe. The bottom blade is heavily rockered, having the heel flat will have the toe really high.

The purpose of doing this is to maintain blade contact when the blade is different positions away from you. If the blade was totally flat you wouldn't have anything touching the ice when you reach for the puck or when it's close to you.

Last year when Kozlov was on the Isles, Billy Jaffe loved talking about his sticks. The reason they seem so "flat" is that Kozlov shaves the bottom of the blade. He said that he prefers a very thin blade, from top to bottom not heal to toe. It gives him better control of the puck.
