Radius that mimics inlines?

Recommended Posts

I found a couple topics concerning radius but none were too specific on what radius would match an inline skate.

Particularly a hi-lo, which I assume would have all 4 wheels on the floor so it would be pretty flat.

Also found the smarthockey tuuk rocker chart that says this would be about a 12 ft. radius.

Can anyone confirm?

yes, the larger the radius the flatter the steel is, and thus more similar to an inline skate.

I don't think you are ever going to 'match' what an inline skate feels like on ice, but certainly a larger radius is going to be more familiar to you.

inline skates put all four wheels on the ice. forget about that same feeling on ice. might as well get goalie skates.... and forget about trying to turn and stop the same way you did on inline. you'll just have to get used to the differences between inline and ice.

what you want in an ice skate if you are used to hi/lo's is a forward pitch to be similar to the forward pitch of an inline hi/lo chassis. you can put a heel lift in any skate. or try the grafs since they already have an aggressive forward pitch. or try the mission skates with the pitch chassis which allows you to change the pitch.

The old Hi-Lo had a pretty good toes down profile, similar to a Mission Pitch +1, but not as extreme as a Graf Cobra pitch. What ice hockey skate are you in first of all....as the natural pitch of the skate/holder combo will vary what type of radius and profiling you would need to do to your steel.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've owned 703's for a few years however I don't skate with much regularity.

In the past I've experimented with a 7ft radius and a 9ft radius with not too much trouble. However lately I've been on my vintage 752 kevlar tacks w/ pro-lites and am starting roller again.

So I tried to go back to my 703's (w/ a 9ft radius) and it was AWFUL.

In the past I've tried to figure an inline setup that matches my ice skates but now I think it would be a whole lot easier to match my ice skates to my inlines.
