Chadd 916 Report post Posted March 5, 2008 Here's the way I look at it. I've played senior and elite adult leagues for the past 7 years. With the exception of one league that required it, I don't wear shouldies. Reason being is that, let's be honest here, at this age none of us are going to the show, and there sure as hell isn't any ink to be signed either, so why bother going around trucking guys. It's ridiculous. Every league I have been in we all had to go to work in the morning so no one out of respect is going to clock anyone else. Those years passed when we all stopped playing competitive hockey. All you need is one asshole who thinks the 70s Flyers played the game "the right way" to screw things up. Tonight, a guy trys to run me from behind, bounces off, hits the boards and end up at my feet. What does he do? He kicks up and my balls with his skate, twice. Good thing my legs were longer than his. Psychopaths are ruining hockey.
Jarick 5 Report post Posted March 5, 2008 In that sense, you're more wearing protective gear because you don't know what the OTHER guy's going to do. Kind of like defensive driving. Assume that everyone else is going to keep their sticks at face-level.

chippa13 1844 Report post Posted March 5, 2008 All I know is that the local rink doesn't have checking except for peewee. Does it just vary from rink to rink or is it only more advanced adult leagues that do checking? How does this work? You're going to have a hard time finding an adult checking league in the US, unless you live in New England, Michigan or Minnesota. You're exactly right and that sucks. It's a large part of why Canada wins more internationally and produces more top players. Name an American star player that can hit and play gritty too? We're not producing players like Roenick anymore. We've totally wussified our collegiate programs.Right, because we all know that the best players in the NHL came from checking beer-leagues. You wear a helmet off the ice, too, don't you.
nni 0 Report post Posted March 5, 2008 my league is non contact, but obviously some contact is allowed in game situations, but there are some guys who routinely cross check and one team that has had 7 suspensions so far for fighting, its just dumb really. Those guys are out to kill. Paying a few hundred bucks to skate once twice a week with ass clowns like that isn't worth it for me.
