Skated on my G3 Ultras for the first time....

Recommended Posts

So after lots of searching, I have finally found the right boot. Yes that's right I found a boot that I am 100% happy with. It fits fantastic, I have no discomfort and complete support.

Skating felt great, Except for a slight issue. I feel like the combination of the Graf boot and the Cobra holder forward pitch is *too aggressive*

So my question is what holder could I switch to tone done the forward pitch just a little bit? Something like the LS holder which has a neutral pitch?

LS2 works exceptionally well on that boot. Just make sure you get someone that knows what they are doing because graf outsoles aren't the most reliable.

If there is someone reputable around you get a profile if all your problem is with the pitch. No need to go drilling around on our outsole if you just need to change pitch.

Thanks for the input guys, I think I am going to go with LS2's.

i had the g3's and switched from cobra's to ls2's for the same reason. they were still too forward pitched. since my area doesn't have anyone good around for profiling, i just ended up ebaying the skates. i wish i had put the tuuk custom + on them. i think they would have balanced the pitch out just right. fyi, i was coming from ccm skates and was trying to achieve similar pitch.

I just put custom+ on my grafs last week. I've only skated on them once and it still felt a little awkward. I've used Eastons for the last 2 years (my first skates) and it is taking some time to get used to the new feel. I really hope it starts to feel better soon b/c now I'm still tempted to use my Eastons during games. It sucks skating like a noob when you know you could be playing a lot better in your old skates.

The forward pitch on the Graf's, should make you a better skater or force you to skate with the optimal knee bend. I think once you get used to it, you will really like it.

there is no optimal pitch for everyone. you've read too much graf literature. while it may be nice for some, it isn't for others. yeah, you can get used to it, but it isn't optimal for everyone.

want proof? why do different graf skates have different pitches? the g3's have more pitch than some of the other models because of the heel lift in the boot. why would they make different pitches if there was ONE optimal pitch?

Just stick with the Cobras. Too many people just have a couple of hours on them and then change them as they feel different, or just change them straight away without even trying them.

I switched from TUUK's and the first 4 hours/2 ice sessions I really noticed not being on my heels, and though that I'd never get used to them. Now I love the forward pitch and feel my stride has improved.

To each their own. I gave the Cobra's a good 10-15 hours on ice, but I just didn't feel comfortable and thought my stride was suffering. After roughly 20 years on TUUKs the Cobra holder just wasn't doing it for me. I had been on Pro-Lite 3's for a couple years in there, back to Custom +, then E-Pro briefly, but I made the switch between those other holders with no problems and never felt as uncomfortable as I did on the Cobras. After 1 hour getting accustomed to the feel of the LS2's I felt like I was in a completely different pair of skates: in a good way. Simply put, the LS2's felt great.

In the end I say, "Go with whatever you're comfortable with." I wouldn't advise anyone to rush out and throw new holders on their skates w/out giving the current holders a shot, but you know after a few ice times if something is going to work for you or not.
