lightening the load

I have some SuperTacks 952's

Are the newer skates in the $200-$300 price range going to be any significatnly lighter than these?

I also have some bauer shin pads that I think are a bit big for me and seem heavy, so I'm looking for new shin pads.

I"m hoping that lightening the load on my legs will wear me out less. I could drink less beer and lose some lbs but that is not an option. :P

Step 1: Grab your gear

Step 2: Go to your LHS and pick a good pair of skates/shins that fits you well

Step 3: Compare the weight

If your current skates and those you chose are similar, choose a higher price bracket to pick from.

The newer carbon skates (S15, U+, etc) are going to be feathers, but you're not talking about $500+ skates.

The difference for me between my Mission L7's and the used Vapor XX I scored 9 mths ago was amazing! I really noticed a difference in straight line speed as well as turning and even cutting.

Although the discrepency in Quality is parmount in my situation, Im sure in your case its more about advances in technology etc.

Most of the new skates pushing 300 bucks such as a NBH Vapor xxv/Supreme 70 are going to be significantly lighter than those brick 952s.

You noticed an improvement with the L7's or XX's? I would think they're both light skates.

Vapor XX way lighter then the L7's. The boot of the L7 is very boxy and decreased the level of "feel" I had for the ice. The difference is in how they make the Vapor XX and that it conforms (with baking) to my foot allot better.

Friend let me weigh his supreme 70's. They were 1.70lbs. My 952's were 1.95lbs. Most of that was probably sweat soaked in the liner from sunday.

His were a half size lower than mine but I noticed his blade length was slightly longer. Interesting.

Don't just look at the numbers, make sure you try on the skate and see how it feels. So much of what makes a skate great for an individual is the feel. The numbers aren't everything.

LHS is selling off all of this year's stuff. Tried on the Supreme70's. These fit my foot better than my current Tacks. Especially in the arch. Nothing else they had in stock in my price range fit my foot as well. New stuff is comming out to them not until April, plus the price go up.

What's this I heard about the runners on the S70's cracking or something?

Guy in our team throws himself around the rink like Ovechkin, blocks shots with anything and his 70's are holding up quite well. Allot of marks and scuffs but he reckons they are doing a good job so far.

i'd stay away from the 70's if i was you,

i've had my LHS replace the holders 3 times from cracking,

the eye-lets are ripping out one by one, the tendon guards are broken and folded back... there's a long list of problems...

if i was you i'd wait until the new stock comes out next month and then go for the one75's, i heard they've been tweaked pretty good

why not just go to the LHS and try on some skates? Light weight is nice, but buying a skate that fits your foot is alot more important...and yeah most skates you go look at are going to be lighter then what you've got now
