Bauer 9500 helmet

Recommended Posts

I still like the look of the new Easton helmet better. I'm not dissing Nike/Bauer either because I have the 8500 and it is the most comfortable and protective helmet I've had for a while but a tad on the heavy side. The darn retailers here in Canada are waiting until late summer before they're releasing the new Easton lids. It'll give me a bit of time to see the reviews on them before I decide to check them out for fit at the LHS.

up for Pre sale on IW

http://www.inlinewarehouse.com/descpage-NB95H.html

this better be a dam good lid for that price

You knew they were going to be creeping up there. RBK buckets have been $130 for a couple of years now, and if this is supposedly better, the price hike makes some amount of sense. Personally I think my 8K was worth the money and we'll have to see about the 9500. Damn I miss those days when the best helmet on the market was a 5000 and they were $70.

I really hope at some point, helmet prices get so high that people (i.e. MSH members) won't pay them, but with each more expensive helmet hitting the market, it becomes more clear to me that that will not happen. I can't imagine the kind of mental illness I would have to have to pay $150 (nevermind the gang rape that the Canadian LHS price will surely represent - if you could get a 5000 here for under $100 as you mentioned, people would buy them by the dozen) for a helmet.

Having the most expensive model more than double in price over the last five or so years is asinine. The Carbster absolutely tanked at $150 ten years or so ago, but it was a serious advancement over everything else available at the time.

True, but it did poorly in terms of sales, which is why it ended up being on clearance for $40 even 5 years after its release. The RBK on the other hand sells well, and can therefore maintain its price. The 9500 is yet to be determined.

My point was simply that prices should have increased so fast. There's no justification for the rapid increases over the last couple years. With the upward pressure of oil prices, there's going to be justification for some increases. Assuming of course oil prices remain high.

Its still way cheaper than a tenders bucket...

besides... the melon in pretty important and helmets seem to last awhile... I think $150 for a helmet is more sensible than $700 skates
