sitzlejd 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 Need to vent...We just played our final regular season game (university intramurals) Saturday night. We won 7-4 and finished the season 6-2, good for fourth in a league of 25 teams. The game ended around 10 p.m. At 10:52 p.m. the league manager updated the standings, seeded the bracket and scheduled us for a game the following morning at 11:20 a.m. against the same team we had just beat. The tourney schedule was posted online but we didn't even consider checking the site b/c it typically takes at least 3-4 days for the guy to update. Needless to say nobody on our team knew we had a playoff game and nobody showed up. I guess someone on the other team must've checked the site b/c they were there and won by forfeit. We were pissed off that the guy didn't call or tell us while we were at the rink Saturday that playoffs would start the next morning. We talked to the guy to see if we could reschedule the game and he said it wouldn't be fair to the other team who won by forfeit. I asked if we could maybe have a free ice time to make up for the game we got screwed out of and the guy said no What would you guys do?
J_MART 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 similar thing happened to my team in college intramurals 2 years ago, the student athletic association guy running it didnt book enough ice time to run threw the whole season. so at the very end was scrambling to find ice around the city and posted a notice the day of the playoffs outfront of his office, so half the league didnt know there was any games. MR.Bobby.Orr 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 nothing like that ever happened to me, but I can sympathize. It sounds unfair and that guy seems very unorganized. If that were my team, I would lobby for that guy to get fired, or I wouldn't except no for an answer. If your really ballsy, bring the whole team to the next game that the team that "beat" you plays and sit on their bench and warm up and prepare to play the game. When the guy trys to take you off, say you won't leave until the game is made up. Probably and eventually they'll call security and kick you off but atleast you've made your point. It might be immature, but that would really send a message.Accually now that i'm reading that, it might not be the brightest idea but you shouldn't let him get away with that. That was his fault and at the very least he should give you and your fans an apoology. That you should demand.

Jarick 5 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 I hope my team doesn't get screwed like that. Our league is pretty well-run, but they've got the strangest playoff format. They form two pools of four teams from two divisions, have each pool play round robin, then take the top two teams from each pool and have them play a championship game, then the two champions play for the division championship, even though both pool champions qualify for the national tournament. So instead of having a bracket system (two games), or round robin system (three games), they have a round robin, bracket, and another championship system for six games in five days. I just wanted the guy to own it and say "Hey, I kinda screwed up. Sorry guys." We've played in the league for 3 years in a row (9 seasons) and we've been a stand-up team (no ringers, don't bitch at refs, etc). We even won the playoffs last season and are moving up this upcoming season so we don't become "those guys" who stay in C league and dominate. I just thought he owed us a little more. bheidepr 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 I just wanted the guy to own it and say "Hey, I kinda screwed up. Sorry guys." my $.02: I can see that he *could have* said something to you that night if he knew (maybe he didnt know until everyone was gone) but it isnt his responsibility to make sure you show up. I believe your Team Captain should have been pro-active in getting that information. If you knew the guy was there, then your captain should have gone over and asked him if he knew OR when he would know. (He could have shot him an email as well)It would have been a nice courtesy for the scheduler to let you know, but not his responsibility to ensure you ask, or check the website. usahockey22 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 That's a shitty situation...but, it's just college intramurals. Those things are never run very smoothly, and usually you get a pretty good deal, financially, on the ice time and other expenses from the university. You get to play some games and have fun. The intramural playoffs will always be around next year...At our intramurals we had jackass refs who didn't even know the rules (not real referees), we had players who were cheap shotting left and right (one guy kicked a guy on our team in the head/helmet, with his skate on) and who weren't being called be the refs. The refs were also drunk...Still, it's college intramurals, just learn that it won't be perfect.
NuggyBuggy 0 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 That's too bad, but I don't really know why you think you got "screwed" out of the playoffs. It was your fault at least as much as his. The guy posted the schedule online, right ? Even if he is typically slow to post the schedule, it's your responsibility to check. You are upset that he didn't tell you when playoffs started, when you were at the rink. One might turn this around and ask why noone on your team asked *him* when playoffs started, when you were at the rink. If I was in the same situation, playing my the final regular season game and having no idea when playoffs began, I would *for sure* be asking the convenor when playoffs started. So when did you think the playoffs were going to happen, or did you have no idea ? I'm not overly pissed at the situation b/c like you guys said, we could've checked the site. I just never thought about checking the site at 11 p.m. on a saturday night (other things on your mind sat. night in college). I guess this is just one of those times when both parties could've made a better effort. Past precedents just led us to believe that there would be a delay. I won't waste more of anybody's time with this thread. I just wanted to vent i guess.
