Graf Ultra G7/707 question

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I've already bought new pair of G7's, because my previous pair of XXX's is really kill my feet in ankle area, and they don't give me bend my knees, and the laces bites problem is totally disappoint me.. but this is another story.

So, first time I've tried my G7 in my LHS, they was very comfortable for me, for my feet, I've not felt any problems. But when I did first step on the ice, i said myself "Wow!!!", cause they isn't support my ankle area TOTALLY. That was mostly worst training I've ever had.

Later I've thinking about fixation the upper area, and I've found two eyelets on top of tendon guards of skates. I've laced up my skates through this eyelets just around tendon guard and tongue, and now i feel enough flex and support in ankle area.

So, here is the question - it is right what I'm doing? Is it correct using of eyelets on tendon guard, or they was created for anything else?

Tnx

Right or wrong doesn´t really matter. If it feels good, it´s right.

The more classic way of adding support with the 707/G7 is to tape the tendonguard. If you rather lace them trough the eyelets on the tendonguard, I suggest you have separate laces for that. You lace the skate the "standard way" and add a pair of short laces to go in the eyelets on the tendonguard.

I had a friend who had a pair of 707 and he just tied them up normally and if you watch him skate he will always have a deep knee bend. So if you want to get the full knee bend you can try getting use to it and build the support.

Are these new skates? Most skates used to have eyelets at the top of the tendon guard to secure it (with a separate lace) and the bottom of the shin pad around the lower leg. This was before taping that area was common.

The G7's still have the eyelets.

Sounds like the G7 was a great fit for this guy, but the independent 707 ankle just doesn't work for him.

I'd suggest trying the G70s - a little deeper but MUCH stiffer.

The 707/G7 is designed for a deep knee bend or person wanting the ultimate mobility. It actually was first designed for players coming off ankle injuries. If you lace them normally and they don't offer as much support as you like, it would seem it isn't the right boot for you.

Your ankles will strengthen and get used to it after the first month or two. I was in the same situation coming from the Supreme line going to the G5 boot, where because of the lower cut boot, I didn't feel like I was supported enough. I wanted to get rid of them so bad at first, but now I don't even lace them as tight as I can, and I have come to love the extra mobility. You will get used to it, just give it time. Also go to open skates...no equipment, just skate around.

Well, it should be fair to say that his ankles *should* strengthen.

In my case, I'd just grind my talus into a fine paste - but then I'm a freak.

These skates took me a month to get used to when I first got them back in 2001 or so. Now I never lace up the top two eyelets on my skates in most brands..I prefer a softer ankle that "wraps" well, but doesnt feel like a cast. The hardest part about my Grafs was shifting backwards. I was a mess the first time I tried to go backwards in them and this was coming from CCM 952 Kevlars. I fell flat on my rear-end.
