No-touch icing

Recommended Posts

TSN had thoughts from the League...

2 D-Men (Redden & Foote) said they'd like to see No Touch. The Forward they asked (Alfredsson) said he like to be able to chase and keep the play alive with good hustle. So, I guess opinion is relative to how your position is affected by it.

True, forwards don't care because they're not the ones who get injured when these plays go bad.

Plus it's the only time Alfredsson can hit anyone...

Foster was hurt because the forward, whose name escapes me, knew he was beat, and instead of playing the puck, decided to be a douche about it and push/check Foster from behind.

Did you watch the game? Foster was losing his balance even before Mitchell touched him.

All the MORE reason not to give him that push from behind. That just douchbaggery of the highest degree. Imagine the roles reversed. I'm neither a Wild nor a Sharks fan, so I don't really have a vested interest, although I do feel bad that this guy got hurt so badly. No one likes to see that.

Brian Rolston was talking about his brother coaching in a League where they have no touch icing when the Defensive player is alone or the race is even, but if the Offensive player is winning the race, they let the play continue.

I think I'm describing that right...It was during the late game, and I was half asleep.

Anyone else see that?

They should just get rid of it.

Cherry is right, someone will get killed one day, and then it will be gone.

Also this was the ONLY hockey thing Cherry got to talk about because he has to show military/fire/police people that were killed in action every week now. Why the hell does he do this? I feel bad for the guys, but this is getting ridiculous.

Perhaps he appreciates the dedication and sacrifice of those folks and would like to honor their memories. If you don't like, change the channel. Heck, the way Cherry usually rambles, I'd prefer he talked less about hockey.

I do not like it one bit, and I do change the channel.

It's also quite curious he continues to do this, yet a few months ago he chided I believe it was PJ Stock for not 'sticking to hockey' (to paraphrase) during one of his in studio appearances. I appreciate the courage and dedication of these men and women, but I would suspect you would find a large majority of military/police/fire personnel would themselves find it inappropriate for their memory to be honored during Coach's Corner every damn week.

Just my opinion, but I don't believe Mitchell intentionally pushed Foster into the boards. To me, it looks like Foster cut in front of Mitchell and Mitchell put his arm out to brace for impact. The guy doesn't have a history of cheap shots, or intent to injure. I watched the game live, and they showed it over and over while the medics were backboarding him.
