Weighted vests

Recommended Posts

I've been interested in getting a weighted vest for working out (running, sprinting, biking, working out, hockey, etc.) and am wondering if anyone here knows anything about them. Anything could, such as brands, places to shop from, fit, personal experience. I'm looking for one between 20 and 40 lbs, that isn't bulky. I'd like to wear it under my gear during pick up and practices. Any ideas?

I'm not an expert on the matter but it sounds like a bad idea. You'd be creating a pretty big imbalance. Not sure what your goal is, but it seems like whatever it might be, there's probably a more effective option.

Oh boy, could I be opening the door for a plethora of ribbings, but...

While I do not have one, nor any interest in getting one... I did read receiently, that Weight Watchers makes a weighted "Walk Vest" to wear whilst walking, to supposedly assist in burning more calories

Used to sell them, great for off ice training. Running up stairs or sand hills in the weight vest are great. On the ice it may change things slightly, your skating might be effected by the sudden change in weight. Then again maybe Im worng on that and logic is failing me.

Either way the off ice effect they give is fantastic.

I've used one on ice in a camp before, oh boy it felt like I was literally flying when I took it off, definetly worth your while to get one.

Keep in mind that could be the placebo effect, and not just getting stronger and faster.

I have worked out with local pro players of echl, ahl, and older NHL. We skate during the summer. They are actually using the the weighted vest along with a parachute while doing skating drills. We skate for a half an hour with vests and chutes. It's a killer leg work out. Once I'm done I feel like I can fly on the skates. Doing this has help out my speed alot.
