Any info/reviews of Graf skates?

Recommended Posts

i just came back from skating in the g5 ultras...i'm pretty disappointed haha. I knew there was going to be more ankle freedom but I feel MUCH worse of a skater compared to when I was in my synergy 800c's (and I already tie them fairly loose up top!). Backwards skating is easier(more stable) though but that might have more to do with the longer runner and different profile (i swapped my razrbladz 2 for lightspeed 2s on the 800c's). I'm definitely getting plenty of knee bend but cross overs are a bitch right now....grafs are definitely not as stiff laterally as other skates.

i'm a little disheartened but I'm far from giving up. hopefully the next few skates will show improvement. just gotta keep on strengthening those ankles....

I went from NBH 6000's to G5's and felt the same way ankle wise at first. But after a few skates I made the adjustment and I feel better in the G5 than any skate I've been in. The pitch was easy for me to adjust to. It felt funny in warm-ups, but once the puck dropped and my focus was on the game, there was never an issue there, but everyone is different.

The heel is equally narrow in both the G3 and G35. The G35 is a hybrid of the G3 and the G5.

This table has been floating around for a while.

This may help with deciding which skate may suit you.

Good chart, though, the G70 is NOT hinged like the 707 and is quite deep.

G70 not as deep as 709/G9...

in the beginning, i was starting to regret spending $700 on the G5's but after todays skate and puck (which would be the 3rd time I've been on the ice with these skates), I no longer have any doubts. All it took was a little bit of breaking in and a little bit of adjustment to enjoy these skates. No doubt these skates will keep on getting better for me.

So there's my review. If anyone is questioning whether the ultra G series is worth it, the answer is a resounding yes, assuming they fit. I have yet to determine the durability and protectiveness of these skates but I'm pretty sure they're up to the task.

Great nice update on your skates.. My next pair will deffinetly be a pair of grafs soon after saving some money thats worth it. Did the skate feel too light..? Like in terms of the s15..? I fit barely in a ee vapor right now and these are breaking down on me and my heel goes up and down sometimes and i use to own a pair of grafs and loved the low cut.

Durability won't be an issue. Protection wise not that bad either. Not as good as Eastons (about the best on the market, especially the newer one piece composite boots) however just as good as a lot of other major brands on the market.

The Graf's have a very aggressive stance to them. But once you get used to them, not only will you skate better, you will skate faster as well.

I tried on some G5's tonight at my LHS, and WOW they fit amazing!

I will however be ordering them online to try and save a few bucks.

I felt instantly like I wanted to take a stride in the G5's...they fit that good.

I'm confused. You're claiming they will make you a better, faster skater before you bought/used them. This is your credibility flying out the window.

Not to mention the fact that Graf prices are locked in by the manufacturer. If you get a discount online, they should lose their account for undecutting MAP.

I used Graf's when I was younger. I am aware of how they are made, and the aggressive stance they have.

I tried on the new G5's and still the same great Graf fit and design.

So credibility still in tact.

Not always. Some states dont have TAX. Hence a discounted price.

I have used Bauers, CCM's, Nikes, Easton's, but never Grafs.

Nothing is more annoying than when people post pseudo reviews of products they have never used before. Don't contribute to that.

Should have said i never used the newer style of Grafs. I did fit and wear the G5's but never skated in them. So I can give my opinion on the aggressive stance etc.

12 years difference in skates is hardly using anything current.

Think what you want though.

You can't give an opinion on anything until you've skated in them. I've tried on every skate released since 2000 but I could only tell you anything worthwhile about Nike/Bauer's. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, you must be referring to the 705 because the G5 is pretty damn current.

Hm, the only skates I have a reference to are the 800c's. I did try on a s15 but never had a chance to skate in them. I could tell they were very light and comfortable though. But going back to the grafs, they're definitely light in store and light on ice. They still feel light even after 2 hours in them. However, I wouldn't say they're significantly lighter than the 800c's; they probably weigh the same. Personally, I think that a skate that came any lighter wouldn't produce any more noticeable improvements in your skating (ie. faster recovery after full extension).

As i said the last time I used Grafs was 12 years ago. That is before I got my new G5's.

The older Grafs still fit excellent and are made much the same style, and foot patterns.

I have skated in my new G5's now, and they are great skates.
