Easton S5 shaft

Recommended Posts

Isn't it just the re-brand of the Octane? I saw the shaft on IceWarehouse and was debating getting one.

If it is the Octane, fairly smooth, boxy, traditional shape. Constant flex profile that will kick at your bottom hand. A decent tank shaft, my buddy had one for a few years, a guy I skate with has two with him every week that look the same every time he shows up.

(Tank-shaft; heavy, slow, anything short of a bazooka or aerial bombardment won't leave a dent)

if its a rebrand of the octane.. then why is there a OPS too? does that mean its just as heavy as the octane shaft?

i'd buy the OPS.

Easton went all out, they have like 7 sticks now all through the price range. OPS sells more than shafts, why wouldn't they make a cheap stick that half of the beer leaguers on a budget will buy?

I'm thinking it is the Octane. UL was $80 and the ST is $90 (precedent that their new line went up for the same product), the Octane was $25-30 and this S5 is $35-40 and the catalog says it's a fiberglass shaft.

There was a kid that used to come into our shop every two weeks with a new Octane shaft because he broke the old one, asking us to swap the blade or cut the shaft for him because the shop where he bought them refused to do it for him. He wouldn't buy a better shaft or a more durable one, he always went with them because he could only afford cheap stuff.

I can't imagine that anyone actually considers the Octane "durable".

Maybe he had a habit of smashing the goal post? Like I said, my buddy had one for years before he two-handed the iron and cracked it.

There is one in the garbage can after most nights around here. The vast majority of people I know who have used the sticks have complained about the lack of durability. Maybe your buddy got the one good one.

I picked one up just for playing outside with my friends. I just like the way it looks, and it cost me less to get a blade and shaft combo than a abs stick for outside.

It's not bad if you just want to play around with it, don't expect performance to be amazing but its cheap.

big_bt: how much did you get your S5 OPS for? they're going for $70 around random online hockey stores.

my question still hasn't been answered lol the S5 is the octane shaft and the S5 OPS is the octane shaft fused together with a blade to make a OPS?

That pretty much sums it up. I'll stick with my UL and maybe consider a One90 shaft.

Good info, all. thanks.

I actually pick one up at Sportschek of all places. It was close to 26$ or something because there was a sale going on. Its a decent stick for just messing around.

I used to have one. It broke playing ball hockey in my driveway.

This comment usurps the previous comment about the shaft being perfect for ball hockey as the #1 reason I still would not purchase this shaft.
