Help me determine if I have a wide foot

Recommended Posts

I have been running into problems in my last 3 pairs of skates with some forefoot pain and the skates bulging out in the middle eyelets. Can someone help me determine if I have a wide foot? I asked the guy at my LHS if I should buy a wide...and they typically say no, probably because they don't have any in stock in wide width and want to push me out the door with the regulars. Service is relatively bad here in FL, and I want to find a pair of skates that fit. My G5s give me the forefoot pain and bulge out. My Supreme 50s were ok when it came to the pain, but still bulged out when laced up tight all the way. I can take pictures of my feet in each boot if necessary, and I can also take some measurements if necessary. I was also thinking about moving into RBK as I know they run a tad bit wider, and that might be all I need. Any help is appreciated.

Did they measure your foot? Have you tried the pencil test? Sounds like you may need a deeper boot.

This is how I measure my foot at home, I put my heel against a straight wall, then I put a 2X4 against the front of my big toe - then I pull my foot out and measure that length with a caliper. I do the same for both feet, and same with the width at widest point and maybe width a heel too.

My length was Left 11.78" Right 11.67" about 0.11" difference about 1/8", I think a 1/2 size is about 1/4" not sure....I fit into 11.5D Bauers...

Can you elaborate on this a little?

Do you feel like your foot is being squished together just back from your toes, above the balls of your feet?

Ok, that just below where the toebox meets the boot...tough area for most people. I had my area punched out a bit....but its tough because the toebox is pretty much staying where it is because its a hard plastic - so whatever is punched in that area, overtime is creeps back a little close to the original width - if you do get a punch - tell them to keep it overnight.

Traded away my Grafs for some RBK 8ks and some other goodies on top of that, hoping these work out...if not Ill just stick with my supremes as they seem to give me the least amount of issues.

Obviouisly those skates don't fit. Don't buy skates that give you those types of problems. Try on different brands and models until you find some that don't give you that problem.

Go to a LHS and have them measure the length an width of your feet. The foot measuring device they have will do both and then they can help fit you into a skate that will compliment your foot size.
