Does Lazyness Die?

Recommended Posts

I don't like books and such. I feel I am a kinesthetic learner than listening to teachers blah blah blah. I'm going to a community college right now and I'm not dumb I just don't apply myself. I would like to do something in hockey but being an RN makes good money, but I mean if I'm not into it whats the point? ya know. I'm really enjoying your feedback by the way.

I can relate to this. I was never much for homework or studying and never did all that great in school. I did just enough to get by. It wasn't that I was lazy, it was because I found it boring.

I left a very well paying job as an electrician because I hated it. It was something I had gone to school for and worked at for quite a few years. I wasn't happy, so I got out while I was still young enough to make a change. Point is you should enjoy what you do.

I don't think laziness is incurable. When you find something you enjoy doing you'll want to apply yourself.

I was the same way with school. I went to college for a year, left to join the Marines, and ended up going back to college 4 years later. I did online courses and found it to be not be too bad. You can work at your own pace and don't have a teacher yappin' in your ear.

Or just join the infantry in the Marines, that'll knock the laziness out of you.

yeah I have a brother who was in the Marine reserve. I was thinking about joining a year ago, but really wanted to pursue a different career.

I have\had the same problem now. I was studying economic analsys at university, but it turned out it's not really what i expected, so after a semester and asking the teachers about the following years i quit because i had enough of all the theoretical maths. Now I'm going to do history high-school exam again so i will have more points when i apply.

I can only say, that if you feel that you arent intrested in the major subjects and the only thing that keeps you there is that you will have a good paying job, i'd quit. I mean you can't have any big success if you're not intrested in something.

I had this hockey dizzyness too, i wanted to become a coach and so on, but i realized getting overseas as a coach is much harder, so i too all the hockey posters of my wall and started reading things i'm intrested in.

You need a firm idea of what you want to do with your life. I'm only a freshmen in college, but i know for a fact that i want to teach earth science and coach volleyball. before i knew this, i didn't work hard in any type of school work. Theres no motivation. id say do GE courses while you find what you want to do. Sooner or later u'll find something that really motivates you.

Keep moving forward and put yourself in a position to do what you want, once you figure out what it is you want to do.

in my experience (and i've jumped around from school to school to program to program) don't go to school just for the sake of going to school. I learned that the hard way.

if there ever was a bigger waste of time and money, i don't know what it is.

I was in the same position as you a few years ago. I ended up taking pretty much every elective offered at my university. In the end, I realized I had a %^**#@ useless degree, unless I wanted to be a Professor and had always been interested in law so I said "What the hell?". I really think part of the problem is people expect too much out of a job, as there's practically no job you'll always love and get paid more than 90 cents an hour for doing. Even if hockey becomes your job, you'll develop a new hobby since hockey has become work or eventually burn out. That's just how the human mind works (atleast mine).

My advice would be do something in a field that has many opportunities. I don't know if anyone has suggested this yet, but have you considered becoming a mechanic? It's paying pretty well these days, doesn't require that much book/school work and allows you to work with your hands. Plus, once you can repair a car, you can learn to repair many other things with little difficulty (or so I've been told).

You are simply too secure in your current environment. Mom & Dad have done a great job providing for you and keeping you comfy in the family nest. Problem is, it's THEIR nest! They built it through THEIR hard work.

I think this is the most accurate assessment of what's going on and I say so due to personal experience.
