Custom Blades, are they worth it?

Recommended Posts

So, right now i have two pro stock blades, and they both have a toe curve that ive grown to love, i noticed that my snap shot is better with a toe curve then any straigher curve eg p92. so now im worried about what i do when these 2 blades die and i cannot find a suitable replacement. and was wondering if getting custom wood blades made is a good idea. but first id like to know what all my options are, i know about Harrow, and SWD, but id like to know more about the pricing and effectivness of their curves, especially from those who have already done it, and if you were satisfied. my only concern is if it will be worth the money.

thanks

I did it a few years back from Legend and it was good for me for a few reasons. First there weren't too many tapered wood blades at the time and second I couldn't find any for under 35bux a piece. I was able to tweak an existing blade and get exactly the curve I wanted and the deal they had going I was able to get 10 blades that ended up costing roughly 20bux a piece. If I were in your shoes I'd definitely at least do some research on it and see where it goes, and if you can get TPS to do them like JR suggested, even better

if i had blades and wanted it cloned, would it be possible to get the same curve but with a different lie and rocker? or would they only mold the blade?

so would my best bet be to buy a wood blade, and then heat and shave it into what i want, and send it in with the forms? so that they dont screw up.. and on the christian forms, theres a box for specifications, what for example do people put in there?

I bought Sherwood Custom blades last summer, they lasted me about 6 months. Starting in late october i was on the ice everyday and they did eat up on the bottom, I still have two left but havent used them since December. The reason for me buying them was i could never find a drury like woodblade around my area and in that way it was worth it but i wish the bottom had not got chewed up so quickly. When I did mine I took an old sakic t-flex blade, cut it to short hosel and shaved the rest of the hosel down, then heated the curve until I got what I wanted, you should be able to specify whatever lie you want tho.

if the bottom was being 'eaten up' too quickly.. wouldn't that mean you have the wrong lie?

it shouldn't wear out a TON if you have the correct lie.

i think im leaning towards harrows, because from research, swd switzerland only makes em for pros, and for tps to make it you need to order a minimum of 24. Anybody who's used the Harrow blades, non tapered, can i get an estimation on the weight?

thanks.
