New Skates - Just Baked - When can I skate

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a new pair of Vapor XXXX and had the baked about 5 hours ago. Is it OK to skate on them tonight or do you have to wait 24 hours or so.

Thank you

Companies used to say 3 hours, now it's 1.

We usually say 24 hours to be positive everything has set, but that might just be to cover our ass in case something is off. I don't know. I trust Nike Bauer more than some of the people who have been in my shop before me.

I know guys who have skated on their Vapor XXXXs after 1 hour and were fine.

I know guys who had skates 3 sizes too big and had them baked and skated within 15 minutes and they were fine..... they didn't even notice when he returned them saying they were too big....

when i worked at a pias we told our customers to wait 24 hours. it just lets the glue and everything settle again.

yeah that's we tell them at the LHS I work at, just to be safe.

I think 24 just became the official verdict. Even if that's excessive, why risk it anyway? It's not like there's such a thing as waiting TOO long.

Not to drag this out but if the manufacturer says it's OK after an hour then I really don't see where the argument is. Hell, put 'em in the fridge if you have to. Once they're cooled to room temperature you're not going to hurt them.
