Glue for blades

Recommended Posts

I searched but could not find a direct anser, what kind of glue is best to put a shaft and blade together? The glue sticks i have seen online just look like a hot glue gun stick, are they? I am putting a synergy II blade into a dolomite shaft i just purchased. Also is a two part epoxy used in combination with a heat source?

Noooo.. 2 part epoxy works when chemical elements of each component are combined. I don't know if you were considering, but I would not use epoxy to glue a blade into ashaft... that is, if you ever want to use the shaft again. If the glue is scarce, you can always wrap a piece of tape around the tenon... works like a charm. Glue also gets hard, and cracks- leading to a little wiggle, and pieces of it will rattle in the shaft... henceforth driving you insane.

I would say so... you're thinking just a typical glue stick gun from an arts/crafts store, correct? That should do the trick. I for one, prefer a strip of tape (see my edited post above)

I use big glue sticks from the local arts and crafts store. Thinner sticks melt faster.

I've just switched to hockey tape. Works great, less mess. I try and use as little as I can to not stretch out the shaft.

It usually does stretch out the shaft. The only time you should use tape is when the tennon is loose in the shaft.

Yep, I start with no tape, and if the blade is a little loose, add a strip to one side.

I found high-strength glue sticks at the hardware store. They are yellow, not clear, and seem to hold up better (less glue cracking and rattling insode the shaft).

I use hot glue gun stick when I got it and I've been using the tape method as stated for years, works good..I like to continue to heat the shaft after the blade is in to make sure the glue/tape has actually melted enough to adhere...just don't flex your stick right away lol

i just put some glue from a hot glue gun onto the blade melt the glue that comes on the blade a bit and put it in the shaft and leave to cool down outside

simple and works perfectly

not to highjack the thread, but i was wondering where you can get a heat gun for pretty cheap....

does anybody know where i can pick one up for around fifty dollars that is reliable??

i want to get one so that when i get i new blade or have extras sitting around the house i dont have to go to the LHS to get the blade put in. i can jus do it at home....saves some gas, as most of us need to do with the outragous prices of gas nowadays.

Just keep an eye out to see if your local hardware store has any deals. I ended up getting mine on sale @ Canadian Tire for 9 bucks and it's been going strong for years.

Yup...both HW stores have heat guns for about $29 that work just fine. A piece of stick tape and a little glue off of a thick glue stick does the trick for me. I have had my heat gun for about two years and it is still as good as new.

Home Depot, Menards, etc. You can get the Tool Shop (Menard's Brand) for about $20. I keep it in my hockey bag. I am anti-Lowes but I know there is one of them by you. They usually come with attachments for scraping paint.
