UEFA Champions League Semis

Recommended Posts

I was pretty pissed off when Riise headed in a perfect goal....on our own net and destroyed what would have been a perfect scenario for liverpool on the return leg to Stamford Bridge.

Having said that, it'll be interesting as Liverpool's away form against the rest of the 'big four' isn't that good but our track record in Europe is amazing.

For the other semi-final I expect ManU to run away with this one. Barca's league form has been hurting as of late (even their own fans are against them)with Messi and Ronaldinho(figuratively) gone and C.Ronaldo is unstoppable at the moment.

Your thoughts?

Agreed, I thought we'd blocked Chelsea getting the all important away goal. Hopefully someone can pull some magic at Stamford Bridge. However Kuyt's goal was good, he's been a continual threat in Europe and they'll need that scoring from people who don't have Torres or Gerrard on the back of their jersey. All things considered, the next leg will be interesting, considering realistically (barring any crazy shenanigans) Champions League is the only trophy either of these teams can win.

On the other semi, you have to like Man U's chances (as much as I hate to say it) Barca have been average, at best, and unless the stars align and they magically play better, you'd have to see Ronaldo leading United through.

UCL ended April 8th for me.

Damn UEFA will do ANYTHING to let the Kop enjoy at least semifinal success, cause their league form is CRAP.

Haha that was a good game. I thought we were lucky to get that penalty on Babel. But yeah our league form sucks balls.

Just saw more angles of the Riise OG....what was he thinking!?

League form is horrendous, we can't keep it together, the fist half of the season the guys looked like they were running with their shorts around their ankles.

I have no idea what Riise was thinking, hope he has a better explanation, that that for his teammates, tough one to take.

I really pray that we get thru to the finals and win! Been a die hard liverpool fan since 86.

It was brutal, the ball was literally on the ground that I still can't explain why he didn't use his right foot. Heck, he could've used his left foot and I don't think anyone would have gotten it. However, Kalou shouldn't have gotten that cross away in the first place with Mascherano and Arbeloa marking him down.

Next week is going to be tough. Like him or not, Fabio Aurelio works really well with Babel on the left. I'm guessing Carra on the right, Skrtel and Hyypia in the middle(i'm a little worried with him checking Drogba) and Arbeloa on the left.

I would like to see Crouch up there for more scoring and because nobody can handle him in the air...but it'll be hard to drop anyone down the middle because Alonso picked Chelski's back four apart with his lobs and crosses.

It'll be tough game but I believe!

As much as i hate ManU, I really like Scholes and Giggs. That was a nice goal! Hopefully Liverpool attacks from the get go at Stamford Bridge tonight!

Scholes has been with them since the mid-90's, so thats correct. Are you thinking of Rooney?

Scholes and Keane didn't play in the Final in 1999. Both were suspended for yellow cards in the semifinal. Schmeichel wore the armband in place of Keane.

yea yea... rub it in. When I woke up to watch the game (2:30am here) and saw Torres' goal, I thought we were thru...

even though I am a die hard liverpool fan, i think Lampard deserved to score after what has happened in the last week or so... am sure that this doesnt make up for his loss, but at least you know he plays with his heart.

Great goal by Babel... need more players like him to snook the keeper.

Not going to watch the final, but I hope Chelsea win the final and the EPL. As much as I like to see Ronaldo dangle, he's too freakin arrogant for my tastes.

no, i remember him being there that long and all.. but like, i didnt think anybody could have such an impressive stat. ManU have hardly missed a CL appearance, and for him to play in every game.. wow.

I don't mean to rub it in, I'm not a Chelsea fan. I've just been a Drogba fan since I saw him play in the Olympics for Ivory Coast. I've never really appreciated soccer, and today's game was the first full match I've watched in a while. I could see myself getting into it.

But the guy said since 99.

Also, Roy Keane, scumbag of the world. There is no professional athlete I hate more than that prick.

The FAI should never have let him back :angry:

Roy Keane... basically ended someone's career with a nice tackle. Apparently it was intentional as well. watch the video, you can see how high he went into the tackle, and he expected the red card.

Cant believe that as captain of Ireland, he could just walk out on the team just a few weeks before the World Cup... POS in my opinion..

If Keane pumped all his money and time into the FAI and apologised for his actions scored in the final minute of extra time in a worldcup final and publicly burned a ManU shirt... Would he be forgiven?

doubt it... he's too far gone. Although he did command the midfield and had respect of his peers, I'm not sure he had the respect of the fans (or Patrick Viera)...

Ouch, rough exit to the last possibility of a trophy. Liverpool scoring on the road makes it sting that much more. Hopefully they can sort out their front office woes (i.e. boot hicks and gilette so far away from the offices they can't even see it on a map) and re-tool for next year. Hopefully Torres can transfer is scoring run through next year. Oh well. I guess this might put a little more pressure on Benitez to pull out some sort of tricks to keep his job.

What does everyone think his chances are of coming back next year?

I honestly think they'll keep him around, at least for the next season.

I like Rafa... he's compassionate about the club, but disillusioned by the freaking owners approaching the falling German Klinsmann...

Rafa has done a lot for the club and has strengthened the depth of the squad. Look at their reserve & youth teams and you can see the impact that he has made to sign some potential stars. everyone needs to start somewhere... look at Gerrard when he first started, hot heading, two footed tackles and look at him now.

Torres, Babel, Nemith, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas... these are the names of tomorrow, but have already started to perform today.

I think once the board room debacle is settled, we should be in for a good season. All the better if DIC can pump in some serious $$$, so that we can have a better stadium, and have more funds to bring in the likes of some top players like Torres.
