Team managment software

Recommended Posts

Did a search and didn't seem to find anything on this topic, was wondering if any of the captains here use team managment software? I'm starting a club for our summer league and just wanted to get experiences and impression of TMS. Here's what I'm considering using, http://www.teamcowboy.com

Our league uses pointstreak and they have a ton of useful features for management.

Team Snap

Not a captain but have been on teams that use this site.

would you happen to know if they've ever had to pay for it?

it would appear that it's been free the entire time they've been beta testing... but someone else just told the received a msg saying they'd need to pay. i couldn't find anything about pricing anywhere (takes me to a 'free while beta testing' page)

i like the site, but would probably stick to email lists depending on price...

Holy crap,

Use a excel spreadsheet u lazy bastards. If you want to send mass emails create a group in Outlook and use that. Don't pay for something my 5 year old and 5 minutes could do.

For email lists, yeah it's easy to do. However, pointstreak allows people to check in or out for the game online. It also allows you to set lines, post contact info, schedule non game events, automatically send out reminders before games, post comments on a chalk board and serve as an online "hub" for your team. I'm sure other websites offer similar features and they are very useful once you start using them.

Send out an email before the game and say who's in? Set lines?? Its friggin beer league. Just as easy to "reply all" as to create an online hub, perhaps easier.

I'm no longer playing with any teams that use Team Snap but I can try and find out if they are now charging from a former team captain. It sounds like they are now.

If you think hockey is being taken too seriously, you're on the wrong message board.

There is a time and a place, beer leauge is not it. That is the time to go out and have fun with some buddys, the guy who ruins it is the guy who takes it too serious, thinks hes still got a shot at the show.

That's the point... it's a beer league.... it's supposed to be fun. Taking less time/effort away from the captain who has to email the team, take account of what players are out for the game, trying to come up with any subs if need be, etc. makes it a useful tool and not too excessive to be utilized for any captain.

yeah, or a captain wanting to know who's gonna show up / bring beer / etc and a guy playing like it's game 7.

looks like teamsnap is free for now at least, and while it remains free i'd much rather use that than an email list!

Im with this guy, we just set lines after warmup. An email is sent out before games, and then we call subs when we are at the rink right before the game for a real count. Anything more than 10 guys is too much anyways. Seriously, guys still set lines before games? F that, Im more concerned if our sponsor sent beer, or if we have to go to the bar after the game...

I don't want to have to put up with 50 questions while I'm trying to warm up. Drag and drop names into boxes and hit save, you want a hard copy, press print. Our league runs on a tight time limit. From the end of warmups you have a minute and a half to be ready for the opening faceoff.

If you guys don't have anything to add on topic, there's no need to post. Telling everyone how much cooler you are because you don't need this software is the perfect definition of a pointless post.

I think you're over emphasizing the setting line feature. If the schedule changes, then the captain has to send out a new schedule, re-send reminders, etc. Input a schedule, make changes as need be, then let the software handle the reminders and posting of the new schedule.

Also, I know my team couldn't call in subs 10 minutes before games.

i'm the last person anyone would accuse of taking things too seriously in the rink (i don't set up lines beforehand, dislike playing with more than 10 etc) -- BUT -- knowing that you're gonna have at least 5 guys, a goalie, and cold beer is nice. and infinitely more important to me than lines / stats / winning.

i made a teamsnap for one of my teams yesterday after seeing this thread, and after spending 15 minutes MAX putting in our schedule and setting it up, it seems like time very well spent. the captain took over and invited everyone, and now we already know who's [supposedly] gonna make it to the rest of the games and who's bringing beer. it's not like you have to upload point statistics, let alone SOG or +/-

i'd use it if i was a captain... especially since it's free.

Someone's got to sig that... :)

Does anyone else have a team-management option they can suggest?

Like I said, I'm enjoying rosterspots.com, but it's quite limited in how it handles reminders, and it sure ain't pretty.

My rink uses sportability.com. I've never used it to manage a league or team but it seems to work well

i second the sportability.com one - the majority of the rinks i have played at use it as well.

there may be better ones out there - but this is the only one i have used. it especially makes alot of sense for places that run multiple leagues and have multiple people helping run them.

To get off GretzIsGod's back, I just wanted to mention that I use a message board. www.invisionfree.com

It's free and I just start up a topic for games and have everyone post. It's basically the same setup and look as MSH.

Nice compromise between sites like TeamSnap, TeamPages and not having to answer questions while I'm putting on my skates.
