synthetic ice surfaces

Recommended Posts

i have a little boy who enjoys playing and has good skills, but does not get enough ice time. I was thinking about getting super glide for te garage, but its expensive and I dont want to waste money. Has any one else tried this out or have any advice as far as what company is best? Tried the search tool could not find any thing.

It may be hard on the edges, but you can always get a cheap pair of skates for him to beat up. I think the more important question is whether it reproduces the feel of real ice so he does not mess up his stride in anyway.

Synthetic Ice is fantastic for little kids if you have proper instructors to teach them on it. As for damage to your skates, I just picked up one95's and 95% of their usage is on the Prospeed resistance skating surface. I'm not too worried about it.

Ruining his stride will depend on how he uses it. Superglide's goal is to replicate real ice. How much training will this accomplish if he already has bad habits on real ice? Prospeed is dsigned to provide a variable 3:1 resistance forcing all skaters to lengthen their stride and get lower. I'll stop now before I throw in a sales pitch, but feel free to PM me if you want more info.

I'm not sure what you mean by safe? It reacts the same as ice does....

I think he means, does IT work haha. I'd be scared too seeing as I've never skated on synthetic ice. I mean who would want to blow a tire taking a turn real low.

I'd like to know how it works too

for pivots you dig into the ice - how can you dig into a syntetic ice without leaving permanent damange?

Also for stops you shave the ice - again - same question as above. I mean you can stop simly because there's always friction, but it's definitely distinctly different feeling from gliding or sliding sideways...

I tried synthetic ice once & it wasn't mimicing real ice by any means affecting my balance & use of edges.

Hey guys, I found this thread and thought I would post here. I'm looking for some synthetic ice just to shoot off of in my garage. Anybody know what would work out the best? Kwik rink looks a little too pricey just for shooting.
