Blueandgold26 1 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 So a guy on my team got the new v10 ove shoulder pads, he was tellin me how he loves them. They have alot of protection and have alot of padding on the shoulders and chest, they look nice. So then i was watching replays of the caps game where ovi scored 4 broke his nose, i noticed that ovis pads look big at the shoulders but not so much chest. does ovi even wear or are these new shoulder pads just for more sales? what do you guys think? big_bt 0 Report post Posted June 4, 2008 He doesn't wear the retail V10 pads. He wears some rbk/jofa ones with custom shoulder pads.

duch 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2008 A lot of the pro players wear Jofa/Rbk shoulders underneath but will sponsor another brand on the outside. With Ovy it's CCM on the outside which is no real big deal because it's basically the same company anyways. Smokin Joe Sakic wears Easton on the outside but wears custom Bauer shoulders underneath, a combo of the old Cooper on the chest and back, with Bauer shoulder caps. I've heard a lot of players also wear a glove doctored to look like a particular brand however they are another brand completely different. It's what they are used to wearing but they still are being paid to sponsor a particular brand, so they are marked to whatever manufacturer they sponsor. Everything is not as it appears on the surface in the hockey world.
the_sock 1 Report post Posted June 20, 2008 Doesn't Jofa/RBK have the market cornered with the protection? I was told by a rep a while ago that the only elbow pads allowed by the NHL to be worn are Jofa. Of the pictures of the players shoulders, I've mostly seen Jofa...with a few Cooper's thrown in with the older guys. I'm suprised to see some players still wear the old school Coopers. Most Junior players I hear wear Jofa.Cheers

There are older pads that meet the requirements though. Fury elbow pads also currently meet the requirements but were not available at the time of the initial change.
