Easton S15 issue

Recommended Posts

Actually, I already did, but only found a generic corporate email address, to which I sent an email. The office is in California, so they were closed when I called. More importantly, I posted here to see if anyone had any other info as far as who to contact, as someone here may have some personal knowledge or experience with this issue, or may have some info on who specifically to contact. OK?

Spoke to an Easton Rep. They will replace all first batch S15's if they are within the 90 warranty with the new S15 with new glue and double stitch.

How can I know for sure what is first generation S15's and what are the newer improved s15's?

I saw the newer s15's and they were double stiched. It looked like there was the white stiching as normal, but another black stitching right next to it.

I think that is the only visible way to tel. I was told the gluing process, or the actual glue...not sure which one, or both....were improved also.

I also heard from my LHS owner that his S15's had the same problems as all the rest. He contacted Easton and they told him to ship them back and they'd send him a replacement set. He got his replacement set in the mail and looks like he's just going to sell them rather than go through this again. I would suggest talking to you're LHS if they're pretty cool. Maybe they can provide you with the right address and contact information of who you need to speak to.

Doing that tonight. Easton said to send them back to get a second generation pair. Not sure what I will do with them....use them or sell them. If I cant find a skate that fits as well, I might use them, and just pick other s15's on the cheap for backup or future use. Until then, I will continue to search for a skate that fits and is more durable. Will be trying the Vector08 and Rbk 9k when my LHS gets them in.

I really hope in the future they will resolve this issue. I didn't buy any Easton skates mainly because of this issue, but I did try them on. I love the way they really locked my ankle in place. Just don't want to spend that much money for about a month of use.

I agree....to a certain extent. I also hope that these newer version s15's are more durable, but even the older models will give you more than a month. I have had mine for two months, and I am starting to see the seperation, but they would probably last a year....barely :) I am only waiting to see what my other options are.

You're too heavy for even the "improved" S15s..

I hope so too. I would love to have a pair if they could hold up. You're right I was exagerating by saying a month. Even two months though to start breaking down is too soon for me, at that price anyway. Afterall of this you still might see me skating in them. I love the way they fit my ankle. Let me know how the second version works out for you, if you decide to keep them that is.

That may be true, but at least I will have a new pair of the 2nd generation s15's to use or sell. I need to exchange them before the 3 month warranty is up. I am in the process of trying to find the skate that will fit me AND be durable. I will be trying the Vector08 and the rbk9k when they come in. I tried on a 9k in Estero, FL this weekend, and even though it was a D width (I will likely take the EE), it did feel promising. I think from preliminary observations and reviews, this might be my best bet outside of customs. If the CCM's and Rbks's dont cut it, I will be making a trip to get fitted for customs by JR.

I ended up buying a pair of S11's back in January mainly because they gave me the best ankle lock of any skate I tried on. Unfortunately, they're now outside of the 90-day warranty and I just noticed that the leather is starting to come unglued in places. :(

In addition, one of the rivets holding the tendon guard together has broken and that's starting to come apart. Needless to say, I probably won't go Easton again when these completely break down. The sad thing is, I only play once or twice a week.

Super glue will do the trick. Mine started to separate at about the 4-month mark and I've been able to get an additional 8 months out of them so far. As far I can see the rivet on the tendon guard is just for show since I had one fall out early on.
