How To: Dye Your Holders

Recommended Posts

I did black on my mission xp's and i blacked out all of the colors that stuck out. like the green logo, put red laces first then went black looked awesome got many complements but a P.I.A when it chips always have to touch it up. taking out the rivets was easy. For the heel I used a drill and for the toe rivets I used a chisel and a hammer and just hammered away. My shop charged 25 to re-rivet both skates =)

this is how they came out.

@dumbpolak9

i did the same to my extra pair of pitch an they came out the same way, i pre soaked the holders in the hottest water that the tap will make, then i boiled up 2 bottles of RIT black dye, just to be extra sure it comes out black, and they came out perfect, but im gonna remount them using weld nuts and screws rather then have them riveted back on....

@thread

my friend threw away a pair of ccm 92's basically the cheap modell skates, anyway i removed the holders which are basically a cheap version of the e-pro with non removable blade, but when i dye it it doesn't take what so ever, and i was wonder wtf that material is made of? did anyone else have problems dying epros?

I wish they'd just start selling all holders in black or white. I really like the all black look of your skates. Grafs are one of the cleanest designs around.

bringing this back from the dead a bit, i just recently dyed a pair of ls2 holders black. they came out awsome so i went to get them installed. all the holes lined up fine but the place installing them said that the hot water narrowed the gap where the steel slides in in the middle. Anyone else have this issue?

Yep...you have to keep the steel in when you dye them, then they won't shrink.

damnit, guess its back to the old white ugly holders. damn you bauer for not making more black ones

Black LS2 holders are available at all major online retailers right now, they came out the same time as the LE Supreme skates...no need to dye.

I didn't have to keep the steel in on my original ones.

You might be able to get the blades in there... don't be afraid to use a little force. Don't beat the hell out of it, but you can take a rubber mallet and give it a few taps. Sometimes it helps to slide the blade in from the front end and kind of wiggle it in.

they went at them for over a day with a rubber mallet trying to get em in. I know bauer makes the black ones, but i also live in canada so not only is it hard to find my size, but then i cant even get them shipped here. luckily i found one pair but have to make a drive across the border to pick them up hopefully next week.

I'd try soaking them in hot water before giving up on the holders. Just put them upright in a shallow pan if the holders are still installed. Keep the water hot & add a couple of drops of detergent to break the surface tension.

Might swell back to size.
