Vapor XX - Compared to - Vapor XV Skates

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, just wondering if you could help me, ive ordered a pair of Vapor XX's size 9.5 EE from www.hockeygiant.com and ive been waiting like 5 weeks already cause they are out of stock in my size, apparently they will be nother 4 to 5 weeks! my playoffs start in 2-3 weeks, and im wondering if i should down grade to XV's just so i can get a pair of skates for the playoffs? my Easton Z-Airs are getting very worn and woud hate to be having problems with them during my playoffs! Are the Vapor XV's that different too the XX's ??? Your help would be greatly appreciated ! oh yeah, your probably thinking who has playoffs this time of year >? I live in Sydney, Australia... But yeah.

I've heard the XV's are not as light as the XX's. I dont know much other than that.

if you need skates, pay the extra $29 and get s500's :)

For the difference in price the XV is a good buy. I haven't heard of any problems with the XV that people didn't have with the XX.

What about performance/durability wise ??

Like I said, no complaints about performance/durability that I haven't heard about the XX.

Try the SMU Vapor Shift from source for sports (thehockeyshop.com) is one. Vapor XV boot with the lining from the Supreme 8000's you get the best of both worlds as I've found that liner to be much more durable.

Cheers for posts fellas, im just gonna sweat it out and wait for the XX's, i think down grading is just asking for problems. But honestly, having too wait up to 9 weeks for a pair of skates is shocking, i advise that you guys do not buy from Hockey Giant !

But you guys in the U.S. and Canada have it so good with your LHS's... We have one in Sydney, well, one Big - decent one and by the time sticks/skates/gloves etc get over here, your paying absolute TOP $Dollar, like for example $ 550 for a Si-Core GRIP !! which is like $390 U.S.

If you're set on Vapors, then check out THGs, though H.G. doesnt carry them, it's between the XV and XX...The vapor line doesnt have a good reputation for being durable.

My son could have had either the XV's or XX's as they both came in the exact same day and due to a screw up from the shop, he was going to give me either pair for the same price. I then asked an instructor who helped do some Robbie Glantz and Laura S. camps what he thought. He remarked how he and several other instructors preferred the XV's cause of break in period and feel. I told him that my son was on the ice 4 to 5 times a week so he would break them in quickly anyway. But he still reccommended the XV's since they just were a more comfortable skate and a little more durable. We went with his suggestion and they lasted an entire ice AA season(PeeWee), then a roller season as we removed the holder and put his inline frame on them. They lasted very well and performance was awesome. He would be in them again but they are too small and he wanted the "Newest" thing out there so he has Vectors with T-Blades. We'll let you know how those hold up but we have nothing but good things to say about the XV's. Good luck.

If you're going through skates or getting new ones with regularity...then get the XX's...if you need a bit more longevity and don't need the lightest greatest,etc..then the XV's will be fine..

XX took a skate as far as they could to make it as light as they could..XV has a little more weight..still very light..but its not done so at the sake of longevity..

as for buying from HG>.well..back orders are back orders..sh*t happens ...could be any retaile in that situation in the middle of summer..

different things for different people..i think a lot of people who switched to the Vapor..weren't really suited for its design as with the open ankles,etc..its more like a SuppleFit design where its not about stiffness...if you need fore/aft resistence.than the Vapor isn't for you..its full of lateral stiffness though..

btw..cavs19..does that guy Butchie still work at wesco?

exactly, people switched to the vapor because they thought the skate could make them marian gaborik due to its crazy weight, regardless of whether it fit or not.

he's still there....

a zakos, the XV is a very good choice of skate & is durable, slightly heavier & performs just as well.

The durability issues that most people talk about is with the asthetics / cosmetic durability...yes the XX / XV look beat up after 2-3 month but the performance is still there.

We have been testing the Vapor XX & XV for over 34 years now & I can confirm from the hundereds of test pairs that Vapor is structurally very durable....Junior Major for a full season is the norm not the exception.

If we saw skates becomming soft or / & creasing 9/10 cases were because the boot was too big. Unfortunately what consumers think as the right fit for their foot are wrong.

The XXX has addressed the cosmetic durability issues but if you are not fitted right you will trash the boot, if you are fitted pro fit than the durability is very good. One must also keep in mind that we are talking about a silver skate & not a black Supreme.
