Recommended Posts

Thank you fo referals. US or Canadian company

Doesn't Steve Shutt have a company that builds rinks?

No, that would be CIMCO and that is the refrigeration system.

Oh. I knew he had an involvement of some kind. Thanks.

EllisDon did a design/build 3 pad rink complex here, on time and budget. 12.5 mil when our Canadian dollar was about .80 to a US dollar in 03-04. Heard they have a Euro office in Athens....worth contacting. Every time a rink project is considered in Ontario the town council discusses the mcKinney centre.

110,000 people in this town....10 pads!

An ice rink with a vodka bar would be profitable in Russia I bet...stock it with local girls and vodka of course...maybe get a team to play there.

It'll be Ukraine, so the girls are gonna be even hotter. But you hit it right in the bull's eye with vodka.

Sorry for not thanking everyone of you personally, yet I do appreciate the useful info from those who posted it. Talking to a few companies already.

I don’t know the laws in Ukraine, but in Russia any company which installs that type of refrigeration system must have a certificate. So make sure who ever you decide to hire has worked in Ukraine or Russia before and have proper certificates on the model they will install. If not, you're looking at another 3-6 months or running around and about $60k for bribes to speed up the process.

Cheers

Rubo, thank you for being so helpful. Yeah, I'm aware of all these certification requirements etc. Sometimes they're difficult, and sometimes they're not. Regardlesss, that could be worked out.

Which is more dangerous? Ukraine or Russia?

I wouldn't know about most regions, but Kiev (Ukraine capital) is cosier and friendlier than Moscow. I would think Kiev is safer too. In fact it's very safe aside for stupid asshole drivers in fancy cars. Speeding big time on town streets, stupid illegal passings when there's a red light ahead of them, driving on sidewalks, etc. Traffic fines are extremely low here. Most traffic cops are corrupt. You can't beat the hot looking girls here though. And I also believe there are good opportunities both in Ukraine and Russia if you are willing to look for them and find your way around (doesn't neccessarily mean illegal, yet, both countries are corrupt as hell).

Two more things, one it’s good to have connections at the port customs where it will be shipped (I assume Odessa port), Have them lower the whole value of the system to avoid high duty charges. Second issue is this, if in fact you're doing the certification on behalf of a certain company so they can bring that stuff to Ukraine for the first time, make sure you use that to negotiate a good price, because in the future you're saving them a lot of time and money, so you can easily save 250k on this deal. It might be even more profitable on purpose to find a good company which is looking to expand to Ukraine, but never had an opportunity and become their representative in Ukraine. This way every time they build a rink in Ukraine you get a piece of the auction. There are many financial plans you can come up with so that after this build you can make decent money if you're not lazy or not happy with your current financial or career situation.

Cheers

I'd encourage more AMericans and Canadiens to come here for the opportunities. So many niches to fill in. Exporting/importing from the States is cheap. Same goes for Canada As for the lifestyle, it'd diferent, but there's more action and fun. Quite a few places to play hockey too.

I'd be interested in coming over and muscling out the Russian mob and taking over the oil companies and making billions..

Nah, that had been happening to Sergei Fedorov. Enrique Iglesias plays his position now I believe
