chef_ducky 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2008 Are there any other umps on the board. I have checked the search and didn't come up with anything. If so what level, and how high of ball have you done?
willsnipe 0 Report post Posted July 29, 2008 Dont get all mad at me for this,I dont follow baseball that close but how hard can it realy be to be an umpire? I understand homeplate ump would be hard no doubt. But what about something like a first base ump? That would be way to easy to do.

We're talking fractions of a second between the runner hitting the bag and the ball hitting the glove.

I understand homeplate ump would be hard no doubt. But what about something like a first base ump? That would be way to easy to do.Why would I get mad, you obviously have no clue what you are talking about. It is not a walk in the park by no means, taking critiscm from everyone when they don't like your call, or having to man 3 bases at one time, until you get into higher levels of ball.I ump. Only my second year though. I do peewee or little leauge games.Right on, I am 3rd Year. I have only been carded for two years by Baseball Ontario, but the Intercounty program was short (AAA), so I filled in, and they gave me an exception to get my Level 2! I have done Little League, doing a tourney in the end of August, but basically just regular ball!
QandA 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 I did it a couple times to fill in. I've never sene a sport where people get heckled for nothing. The poor fat, drunk, eating peanut fans seem to always lip the umps right or wrong, and it seems to happen in ball more than anything.

Also anyone interested there are some cool sports science hockey videos.EDIT: And yes I understand that video is showing MLB level but the guy makes some good points. What call do you make willsnipe, and why did the call get put into effect?see a lil tougher than you think.... will umpiring looks easy there are alot of lil intracies (sp?)that you have know
JR Boucicaut 3802 Report post Posted August 3, 2008 Batter's out. Infield fly. So that the fielder doesn't drop it and instantly have an inning-ending double play because the runners are tagging up. Actually the depth doesn't matter, it has to be a fair ball easily catchable by an infielder.

Baseball is one of the easiest sports to officiate, though working all three bases at the same time is a major pain in the ass.
