Vapor Model Differences

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at purchasing some new Nike Bauer Vapor skates, and turning in my RBK 7K's. Before the RBK skates, I had Easton Synergy 1300Cs (didn't like them at all) and Bauer Supreme 4000's. I LOVED my Bauer 4000's, and I'm fairly happy with the RBK 7K's. Only thing is, I feel "weird" skating on the RBK's... I don't know how to explain it. I just don't feel the way I did with the old Bauers. Sadly, I don't think anything will ever compare to them. So, I thought I'd say in the family and try the Vapor line. I'm worried more about agility than speed, so I'm not looking at the One 90's or 95's.

Question is, is there a large difference between the XXXX's and the XXV's? Or even pro stock XXX's? I'd like to get custom XXXX's, since I hope these skates will last me a LONG time, and I'd like something that fits me personally. However, it is pretty clear they are very expensive. Can I save money and go with a lower model, or will I be disappointed?

Thoughts?

As far as customs go...a XXXX custom should not be significantly more expensive than a retail pair. I paid $549 for mine.

With that said, you should seriously go with a custom fitting if you came from the 7K because it is just that much harder to figure out the width difference. RBKs tend to run wider in the heel, so people may make attempts to guide your width choice. The best thing to do would be to ask about trustworthy LHS in your area to get a custom fitting. If you were in CA, I could tell you exactly where to go, but I know nothing about stores in Chitown.

I'm in the Vapor XXII's and I've tried on the Vapor XXXX's and XXV's. They feel exactly the same but the higher end skates are a lot stiffer. Quite truthfully I would probably go for the XXV's because they are only a slight step down from the XXXX's but give you a lot of support. They will probably give you just as much support as the 7K's you currently have if not more and are a skate on about the same level as the 7K. I'm very happy with my XXII's but if I had to choose again I would have moved up to the XXV's but that's all I could afford at the time.

If you loved your 4000's, then you may want to consider the supreme line. After I had to summarily put down my 4000's. I tried Vapor XXXX's and my foot was bulging out the top. A custom fit would have taken care of that, but the quotes I got were in the neighborhood of +$100 to the retail price plus the cost of additional materials. And you can only do customs on the XXXX's or One95's...

I think you would end being very happy with a lower model. The difference are, generally, neglible.

when i got my xxv i looked into the xxxx as well. the only differences between the xxxxx and xxv are footbed, liner, tongue, and outersole.

i chose the xxv because they were on sale fro 260 at the time and i didn't want or think the xxxx were worth it.

i went from 5000s to the xxv and i love them. the first things i noticed was the weight, and when skating the glide was easier and longer. i'd buy hte xxv again though with out a doubt.

I just bought new skates today. I narrowed it down to the stealths and the XXXX's. I have to be honest, the XXXX's felt just like the Flexlite 18's (which is what i have now) and the flexlites are a tad lighter. I'd say for $250 go with those. The XXXX's may stay stiffer longer, but i feel it wont be much of a difference. (I bought the stealths in case you were wondering. They're like having a holder attatched to your foot)

also, I went from the flexlite 12's to the one 70's, to the S15's, to the flexlite 18's, back to the S15's

Before you purchase, at LEAST try on a pair of one75's for comparison. Seriously.

It was time for a skate upgrade. I had been trying on different models for a couple of weeks. I had narrowed it down to the Vapor XXXX's. I was completely set on them.

When payday arrived, I went into my LHS to get fitted and purchase. The one75s had just arrived. I decided to compare. I spent about one hour switching back and forth..... tying up and walking in each boot. After this detailed comparison, it was a no-brainer.

Simply: the Vapor XXXX's felt more 'boxey' inside, while the one75s contoured to my foot so much more. The heel area is narrowed, locking in the ankle much better and the toe box was a smidge wider.

The one75s were a little less expensive as well.

I do NOT regret this purchase at all and I'm VERY happy the one75's arrived when they did.

Before spending a lot of cash........... at least try them on!

Good luck.

I would take Wolverines advice and try on a few different models of the Supremes and Vapors and pick the one that fits you the best.

Well, I went to a LHS and ended up getting Vapor 40's. I liked them better than any of the other options available. Plus, they were kinda a "deal," since I got 10% off and get a $40 gift card in the mail for purchasing them. I can tell I'm going to be so much happier with these skates than my RBK 7Ks. I can't wait to play tomorrow and try them out.

So if anyone wants a pair of RBK 7Ks that were used twice a week for just over a month, let me know. They'll be on E-bay soon.

......... such a great skate.

now, now IceAngle don't get all bend out of shape because XXXX's did not fit your correctly. If you watch any NHL game the majority of the players are wearing the XXXX's. Thats being said, I did not fit right in my XXV's so I went to the One95 and have found success. Looks like you might find success with your One75's....cheers

What size, and how much do you think?

Probably asking around $180, size 9.0.

I skated on my 40's for the first time today. Great skates! When I first stepped on the ice I felt VERY different, since I've been skating on RBKs for over a month, and Easton's before that. After about five minutes I was back in stride, and I was able to cut and turn SO much better than in the 1300Cs or 7Ks. Like I said, I wore Bauer for years, so I'm kicking myself that I didn't get Bauer's a while ago when I broke my Supreme 4000's. The only problem today was that there was a part of my left inside edge that wasn't sharpened properly, so I lost an edge twice. Plus, the balls of my feet got a little sore near the end of the skate... I'm looking at getting Superfeet inserts anyways.

I'm definitely happy with the 40's.

one95/one75 supreme skates is REALLY 1/2 size bigger than vapor.

Because i got my one75 3D, I think i can fit in size 2.5D.

Why the inner sole stated 2 1/2?

PS: I wear NIKE SHOE Y4.0-4.5

I went from a 705 to the XXV. At my level of ice experience it was the perfect skate at the right price. I did not get on with one70
