Peace of mind

Recommended Posts

I profiled my son's Rocketrunner's and I was told that I will get aleast 8 to 10 sharpening half season.

Now for my peace of mind, how true is this? Will I get 8 to 10 or less ?

and does the steel blade maintain the hollow longer then normal blades?

All depends on how much steel was removed for the profiling, and then also how much steel the sharpener takes off with each sharpening. It has been discussed at length on here.....search out "Rocket" and you should find a wealth of information on the topic.

They do seem to hold the edge well. I've skated on mine a total of 8 times so far and don't feel the need to get them sharpened. Time will tell as to how long, how many sharpenings you can get out of the runners.

I am bad sorry, I should had done search before I posted.

Thank you both for the reply.

I have sharpened mine 3 times since I got them last january and they may need it shortly on the ice 3 times a week during the season and finished in late may. Skated on them just a week or so ago and still seemed sharp.

I would say you can get an average of an extra 2 to 8 hours on these blades from the harder steel they use.

Hold edges very well.

I sold a pair to a junior player about a month ago. He's been playing in tourneys and showcases and getting remarkable frequency between sharpenings, only needing it twice in approx 20 hrs of ice time. I think whomever put out that these would only last 8-10 sharpenings was talking out their a$$$$. I think the average player will find that if they have a decent sharpener, they will last quite a long time.

THey put it out there to cover themselves. They can be ruined quickly if you don't know what you're doing.

Yah I concur and I also believe they added some steel from the original design.

is stoning them any different? Harder, easier, same?

It's harder to maneuver the stone, you got to be careful and go slow. I've been using a 3" stone with a skinny point, my other stones don't work except the diamond one.

When a company introduces a new product/material like this, how much teaching do you shop guys get from the manufacturer on how to properly work with it. Ex; If sharpening these is different from normal steel...do they "teach" (or re-teach) you how to do it...or are you left to your own to learn how to work with it?

CCM has done an awesome job showing shop guys how to work with it.

I agree with JR, they were right upfront with bulletins and videos. The only thing i don't agree with is in the video the guy tells you to crossgrind. Crossgrinding is not necessary..

CCM really hasn't sent our shop much in terms of teaching devices.

As far as crossgrinding, I usually try not to, unless the blade is really rusted or badly nicked up.
