Tackla 5000 Pro vs. Tackla 9000 ACS

Recommended Posts

I did some searching but was unable to find the answers I was looking for. What are the differences between these two models and which is their top of the line model? I actually have a pair of 5000s at home used once lying around from my old team and a very used pair of 9000s that I loved but both are too large nowadays. What is the difference in these models (I think the 5000 I have are TP5000? and both pairs are red and I want some new black pants)? I was also looking at some 9Ks but I read this is shell and girdle combo? Worth looking at or no? Thanks,

The diagrams don't help me as much as opinions about the fit, weight, protection etc.. I'm also interested in them. Nearest hockey shop that has them is 100 miles away from me.

This is what I am getting at - and I own one of the two pants (or a very similar pair) and the other one I believe is close. Thanks for the help so far but anyone else have any personal remarks?

Furthermore, is the 5000X Pro essentially the same pant as the AIR 9000 the only difference being the former a 2-piece and the latter a 1-piece?

What is their top model?

Thanks,

I can't speak about the 9000 but I do have the 5000 pro and I hate to say I am very dissappointed with the quality. Don't get me wrong I like the fit but I have had them less than a year and the shell is showing significant wear and the stitching is already started to fail is multiple areas and i only play a couple times a week. I never had this problem with my old CCMs that I skated in for almost 8 years. So the moral to my story is if you are looking to get Tackla's I would advise against it because you're going to be shelling out a lot of money for something that will fall apart in less than a season.

I have the 5000 pro as well and love them. I as well have noticed quicker wear on the shell (almost like a burn mark) but that is all. They use a different material so the pant breaks in faster than the older CCM's. I love how light they are and the protection is great. They also fit my frame awesome and I can move in them without any discomfort. I would get another pair for sure.

i have the "burn" marks too and that doesn't really bother me. What really gets me is the stitching falling apart on right above the knees and the seams literally coming open on both hips.

I do agree on the fit and function, they are nice pants I just think if you spend that much on pants the should be a little more durable.

Pro stock tacklas are closer to the 5000 pro. If you're in the US, get pro stock... the non-canadian made isn't too spectacular.

what is the difference between non-canadian made and the canadian made? AND why since I live in the US do i get the Non-canadian made?

I would have gotten pro stock in the first place but they are not easy to find.

They aren't built by the same company, completely different quality. Canadian made is made by Vaughn.

Its a trade issue with nylon. Can't cross from Canada to the US.

Would the 9000s be a better bet then? I have never used a 2 piece before but was looking at either the Tackla Pro 5000X or the RBK 9Ks but I heard the 9Ks were heavy and the durability questionable. If the 5000X lacks durability perhaps I should check elsewhere. The AIR 9000s I had were excellent and very durable but also had the "burn marks" I think (dark stuff between ridging on the shell of the front thigh pads). Would the 9000 be the best high end one piece pant? What would be the best high end one piece pant? What are the pros using? Not sure I want a two piece. Thanks,

Really.... I guess you learn something new every day.

Since we already know they aren't the same quality are the two at least the same design? I ask these questions because I'm on the verge of getting a new pair since the seam on the side of the shell is coming apart and I live in detroit making the journey to cananda isn't a big deal.

My (US) retail 9000s have held up for years and most of the people I know with (US) retail 5000s have had similar luck. The durability thing is blown way out of proportion here.

Bogan, either Canadian pant is going to be made with pretty much the same materials. The 5000 is the pro pant.

Sparty, I believe the US and Can designs are the same. As far as I know, you can only tell the difference from the inner label and the Tackla logo on the hip... and Can flag on belt guard.

Also if the Canadian version is made by Vaughn who makes the U.S. version?

Made overseas

Mine are made in Thailand. I have to say though that other than the wear (burn mark look) the pant has held up extremely well for me. No rips, tears or freys. Either way I'm a happy Tackla customer.

I could always get a shell to go over the 5000 when it begins to get really bad couldnt I?

You can put a shell over any pant. I haven't seen anyone that has a replacement bottom for two piece pants though.

I think apples for apples, the Canadian Vaughn-made 5000X is better crafted than the US Thai-made 5000X.

No dispute here but it's not the night and day difference that some people here would have you believe.

damn.... i wish i would have done a bit more research before my purchase.

A little side topic... but still pant related. Anyone know why when the Red Wings get rid of pants they only sell the bottom piece and not upper piece too. Do players not like break in new ones every year? I noticed Hossa still had purple uppers in the finals this year too.
