I understand you are anxious to find skates that fit but if I was the one dealing with you I would find a way to nicely tell you off and find some one else that wants do deal with your constant ramblings. Customers like you are a pain in the ass to deal with in any field.

Can you try on 709s at any store down there? I remember Face-Off in Pembroke Pines sold Graf, not sure if they are in business.

There's a South Florida Hockey on University Drive in Coral Springs that apparently is a Graf dealer. You need to look at 709.

Neither of those are still in business. I really wanted to try the Graf, but no one even carries them to try. One store up in Lake Worth does, and it was a 2 hour round trip, only to find out they had like 5 actual pairs of Graf skates...all the wrong models in completely wrong sizes.

actually I think FaceOff is in the Pembroke rink.....no selection, and not a single graf in the store.

When trying to find a skate I thought, through online research, that the 709, or one of the G9 or something would be a good bet to try.

All the descriptions of those said "exceptionally deep and exceptionally wide"

Do they have them in orlando?

I am not the same as the customers at your job that want more salt on their fries, so dont take out your frustrations on me.

None in Orlando.

I'm trying to help you - stop trying to get the last word in. Just concentrate on me.

At this point, there are two skates that will work for you most likely - 709/G9 or Flexlite. FLs will be hard to get and the boot has a high rake to it. If you see me it will most likely be for a custom fitting.

Fair enough.

OK, before I take up your time in Orlando, I need to try on 709 or G9. Great.

Only problem is they arent available to try on here.

I guess I can order them online and try them on, and return, until I get the right one.

Is that my only course of action?

If so, which size should I try on first?

Point of reference for length: s15 in 8.5 / 1500's in 9 / RBK 9k in 8 / Bauer 50 in 8

You saw in the pictures the depth and width of my foot, and the s15 in 8.5 were the most comfortable.

Also, any preferences on where to order from?

And if the grafs dont work, I will go custom then.

Thanks.

If I were you, I'd get myself a cheap plane ticket from Ft. Lauderdale to Buffalo. Then drive across the border to Thorold, Ontario to Front Row Sports. They've got plenty of Grafs to try on there. Or go as far as Toronto ... only 90 miles or so. Plenty of hockey stores up there. By the time you try on a bunch of Grafs and return, you'll be about even after shipping charges. Make a mini-vacation out if it and take in the sights. You'll get your skates with the expert help you need.

LOL....a cheap ticket with oil at this level? LOL.

And I couldnt take that kind of time away from my wife and 2 yr old just to get skates.

But I applaud the out-of-the-box thinking.

JR,

The store in Lake Worth said they can do a tracing of my foot and then order the proper size and model. I am skeptical of their expertise. Do you think that will work?

What is the differece between the 709, G9 and G70. It says they are all based on the 709, but seem to be of differing material....and price.

Finally, the cobra holder? Do I get the tuuk, and are the grafs at the same pitch as the Eastons.

sorry about the continuing questions, but it is better than wasting your time in Orlando.

EDIT: the gy at the Lake Worth store said he will measure me and order the appropriate skate, and if it doesnt fit, there is no charge.

I guess I am going to Lake Worth!

I'm afraid to mention the notoriously-narrow Graf toecap.

Anyway, if you can try them at no cost, that is your best option.

Oh well - many guys on here would love for me to fit them, just seemed the entire time he took it for granted and that I was a last-resort situation.

Problem is, if I delete or lock this thread, he'll just open a new one.

yet he's skeptical of their expertise....One thing I've learned since coming onto this board, is to keep an open mind and actually use the lessons learned from various opinions on this board.. Also, keep listening to the right people or you'll continue to make expensive mistakes over and over again..Some fools never learn I suppose..It took me years to realize the source of my foot problems was not necessarily the skate itself but the fit of the skate to my foot and my high arches.. Custom insoles=problem solved..I can skate for 2-3 hours no problem these days, plus I'm more educated as to how a skate should fit my foot instead of utilizing the same mindset I had growing up when my parents bought my skates and a "tight and secure fit" wasnt exactly cost effective..in their eyes anyways.

Maybe cause his new Grafs wont fit or the toe cap issues? heh..I like the fit of the 709s but the width wasnt exactly my problem..the arches were..Baking a skate really opens it up for me, but the toe caps can be a killer..especially if he's had issues with the others..

Yeah, based on his foot he did have a pronounced arch. It will be interesting to see what he has to say when he tries them on. At least he's doing that.

Seems like he buys too many skates online, but a lot of the fit issues and cramps can be solved by something such as this:

trimtofit.jpg

I wore those before getting the custom moldable insoles by Graf...I swear by these for us players with higher arches.

I'm glad that it worked out for you, but you're wrong in his case. SIDAS insoles take up volume, when he's in obvious need of volume, adding an insole like that is just going to make it worse.

Even in a 709? Those are pretty deep skates..I consider my feet to be somewhat similar to his. I do realize they take up volume..that is for sure, maybe that is why he probably needs to go the custom route like you said before. I may be going out on a limb here, but a custom skate + insoles to offer relief for arch issues may be the solution to his problems....then again that is just in my own personal experience...Assuming he gets the extra material by going the custom route..

I suppose so..Its almost like he needs a bigger, padded toecap like the Kor/Torspo skates..I'll admit even though they were a niche skate, they were very comfortable..Who knows? I cant wear Eastons though..just do not fit my feet right even though they're supposed to fit a wider foot..Maybe I'm just not as "wide" as I tend to think I am, but need help with the higher instep issue moreso. I can fit into a Vapor XXXX pretty well compared to the previous series of Vapors.

I have tried on every skate I had available. As JR said, none of them were appropriate, even though some people on this board and all the LHS people said they were. I could have handled this better, but it has been difficult. It looks as if I have one last option, and that is Graf. I trust JR's assessment, and will explore that route. Better late than never. The 709 or G9. I will get measured at the shop and they will order them. If they dont fit, I will have to go the custom route. I actually feel better now that I have a clear course of action, and will not post anymore on this subject (as I can see it is starting to bother people - not sure why...it is a message board...relax!) until I try the Grafs. Thanks JR for your patience, and I will let you know if the Grafs work or not.

The shift2 has significantly more volume than the shift1/torspo copy.

He's baking bread in those SyNergys. I don't think he has complained about arch issues - it's been about the toecap.

No arch issues. Just volume, Width of skate and toecap. Height of toecap not a problem either as the eastons toecap doesnt seem very tall, and they were ok. and durability too of course

I would gladly try them on, but half the LHS havent even heard of them. I dont care about brand or looks.....but they just arent available to me.

That is a lot of volume..If I could find a tight fitting skate with a padded toecap, custom insole and the One95/One90/One75 type ankle wrap..I'd have the pefect skate for me

Kid measured my foot with a ruler type tool, that actually said Graf on it, and said I was a 9 wide. I told him I wanted the G9 or the 709. He suggested the 709, and said it is old school construction with the wood and leather. He also said the 709 was heavier than the G9, but he said it would break in better and be more comfortable than the composite boot. He also said that everyone who bought the 7 series never goes back to other skates. Would be nice if was that way for me. He ordered them and he said it could take 0ne or two weeks at most, and that if they dont fit, I am under no obligation to buy.

I asked about the holder and he said he could put tuuks on fot $80. Is that a good idea? Are the tuuks better?

Anyway, I will see how they are when they get here.
