Hey I weigh 175 and I'm around 5 10" and my 100 flex s17 was a dissapointing stick because while I expected a 100flex stick that eliptical crap made it into a 75 flex stick after a couple weeks giving me two pieces of a s17 shortly after.why make a stick that is ment to be softer than it actually is? Also Some of us don't have the cash to buy A softer stick and break it a couple weeks later.

how can i measure that when i'm shooting though? is it the same as flexing it in stores?

Do you feel the stick bend on a wrist shot? If not, try a stick with more whip.

I've been trying to get to this point for a while now, after using a far too stiff of a stick for years I never loaded on wrist shots. I have to teach myself to shoot all over again, it's interesting to hear some techniques tho and im interested to try them out.

Don't buy it if you aren't happy with the performance or durability. No one forced the stick into your hands. Get the warranty replacement, sell it and use the cash to buy something that you will like more.

Slow down your hands at first to work on the form. Work on pushing the stick forward with your lower hand and feeling it load. Then add a pull back with your upper hand, again while feeling the load. Slowly add more power while using the same motion. Your job is to load the stick, the stick will provide the power.

Are you supposed to feel it bend even during a game when it's fast paced and such? I could imagine in warm up or s/p you could take time to try to see if it works...but you don't really have that much time in a game to load up your shot.

If you have the right flex it isn't hard to load your stick for a shot.

Yeah that's a sure way of knowing...just wondering if there's anyway to know BEFORE you buy it.

About the only way is to use a stick that has enough flex for you, then lean on it a bit in shoes. Then when you go to the store, lean on the sticks and compare with yours.

For me, it needs to be just a bit stiffer than I think it should, which is about 75 flex.

I see those pictures of NHL'ers shooting and there stick bows like mad... you shouldn't bow it like that in stores right? Haha dumb question I guess.

No, but it's not really a dumb question as I never really knew that before I was a member here. You should be able to lean on it SLIGHTLY and feel the resistance. Lean on a 100 flex versus 85 versus 75 versus 65 and you can feel the resistance.

Those NHL players are a lot stronger and have much better technique than most of us. Not to mention they are usually bigger and taller so they can get more leverage. I'd imagine if you did a slow-motion picture or video, you'd be surprised at how much flex you get when you take a shot.

But anyways, what works best for me is having a stick that flexes naturally without me leaning into it too much.

65 flex felt like it was flexing a lot, but I lost a lot of accuracy and power because it was torquing all over the place. It was fun though as I could just push down with my forearms and load the stick a lot for quick shots.

75 flex feels just a bit soft out on the ice, but in a comfortable way, kind of like the Montreal 4400 wood sticks I like so much. I can lean on it a bit and get a lot of power out of the shots, but if I need to get a quick shot off, it doesn't feel too stiff. The shots aren't as powerful as the 85 flex but it feels better all around. I'm not a huge fan of the curve on this stick but I switch back and forth.

85 flex gives me the most powerful shot with great accuracy, but I have difficulty getting quick shots off in traffic as I don't have enough time to draw the stick across my body and get enough flex out of it. A lot of the times the puck rolls off the blade as a result. I like the curve though so I stick with it.

But again, I'm only 5'8" and 165 so I'm not a big or tall guy. Your average 6' tall guy might like a 90-95 flex stick instead.

5'6" and about 160 lbs. Good strength for my size. Shorter legs, longer torso.

I'm using intermediate TPS XN10 shafts with Warrior blades (Draper). My stick is probably just below my chin on skates.

I'm assuming my technique is just poor, but I'm not sure how to correct it. I have a hard time flexing my wrist shots. The feeling I get is that the lie is too low and that I'm leaning to far to get any flex. It seems like my current form wants a 7 lie or something stupid like that to get the puck closer to my feet, so I can push down more naturally. Does that make sense?

Can anyone gather what I might be doing wrong from that description.

I'm finally starting to experiment with flexes to find the right one.

I'm about 5'8 185, but I like to think I can load a stick with relative authority. However, I'd like to try out an OPS with a little more flex to it. I had an 85 flex s17 that I absolutely loved, but I'm still interested in finding out if I can find something even better (and I'm not willing to drop $200 for a new twig). I picked up a 77 flex one90 for cheap - but it'll still be about 90 flex by the time I cut it down.

Are there many stock sticks that I could get to about 75-85 post-cut? It sounds like Warrior might be the best bet... as strongly opposed as I am to the Warrior culture <_<

unlikely, unless you use an intermediate OPS or you use an easton standard shaft like the z-bubble or ultra lite (good luck finding one of those in an 85!!!)

i've been contemplating whether cutting down a shaft/stick to fit an extension (wood or composite) will make an intermediate shaft stiffer to flex...any experience, anyone?

It will stiffen it up but I wouldnt go any longer than 3-4" on the plug

Hello,

Just a short blurb about how I found the right stick for me. After MUCH experimenting (and a whole wad of $$), finally admitted to myself I couldn't properly load the sticks I was using (Easton 85 flex, Bauer 87). I'm 5 ft 10 in tall, 150 lbs, and not the strongest. I basically only use wrist- and snapshots during games.

Anyhow, got the new TPS Response R8 shaft with whip flex and inserted an Easton Stealth S15 blade - WOW!!! Pucks flying off with zip, so consistent!

Thank you to all forum inputers for valuable info!

Wow, lucky you. After 12 years of playing on the ice and shooting in the garage you would think I would have found my niche in terms of stick as well. At this point I am pretty sure I just like getting new stuff because I get bored with the old haha.

Isn't it weird going to a whip after so many years of using regular? It just seems like the areas other than shooting are different... like play along the boards, faceoffs, passing, stickhandling...
