Hockey Boston Area

Recommended Posts

Hello Boston friends,

I'm starting an internship this next january in the Boston area, more precisely in Lawrence, and I'm looking for places I could play pick-up or join a rec team for the winter.

Keep me posted!

G.

I'm not all that great of help north of the city, but I'd say Chelmsford/Lowell/Methuen/Andover are gonna be your best bets. If you ever travel south of Boston shoot me a PM, we skate all the time during the week. Keep your head up in Lawrence if you know what I mean

Mass Skaters is a good suggestion. You should also check the hockey offerings in southern NH, which is just a bit farther north on Route 93.

Thanks guys, that's a good start. I don't want specifically to play in Lawrence, all of the Boston area will be fine! I'll check out Mass skaters!

Lawrence is the hood pal. If I where you I'd look for another internship that isn't in the ghetto

8-80, blind, crippled or crazy, we got a spot for you! Mon morning pickup at Skate 3, Tyngsboro, tues morning at Skate 3 (free coffee and donuts) or Wed at noon. Your choice! If that don't trip your trigger, we have so much hockey in our area. If you are a ringer, PM me.

Nevertheless, while in Lawrence you GOT to go to Lawton's for a Hot dog, got to go to Napoli or Tripoli for Pizza and desert, and to Cedar Crest for Cutlets and spaghetti!

The down side is you'd have to skate on Skate 3 ice.

quincy youth arena does stick time for $10 a week on a drop in basis. i know that neponsit rink in dorchester and roach arena in w. roxbury have men's leagues that play on weeknights. thoes are inside of the city of cource. none of this panzy "im from Boston but more specificly the suburbs not acutually inside of the city" shit i hear at school all of the time. just for the record: lawrence is like 30 mins. outsiide of Boston. not even close.

I can spit on the Neponset bridge from my back yard.... haha. I haven't been to QYA in over a year. Last time I went it was $5 a day for drop in from 10:30am-12:30pm..... every 3 drops ins, your 4th was free.

Aren't you guys exagerating with the ghetto stuff? My internship is with a large multinational corporation that you all know and would be surprised it was in the ghetto lol. But oh well we'll have to see! I'm definetly not changing internships!

Lawrence has, like many big cities, good areas and bad areas. In general, anything south of the merrimack river is perfectly safe. You could even go a 5 or so blocks north of the merrimack too. There are some areas, maybe around 15 blocks north of the river where you do not go. The valley forum, which is on the southern edge of lawrence, is perfectly safe.

Would North Andover be better? Or is it more convenient to go dowtown Boston and pay the high price?

North Andover is a really nice town. Either will be fine for hockey.. I think everyone was just letting you know that Lawrence has some really tough neighborhoods.

I just got an email from Mass Skaters for a league in Haverhill, which is very close to Lawrence.

To: mass_skaters@yahoogroups.com

From: ahurrell@gmail.com

Date: Thu, 16 Oct 2008 14:26:38 -0400

Subject: [mass_skaters] Mens League in Haverhill

I run a small mens league in Haverhill at the Veterans Rink.

I currently have 4 teams. We start a second season in January.

We are looking for teams or individuals to play. I would say

that it's an A/B/C league. We have a mix of all.

Send me an email if you are interested...

I am a weener expert, trust him when he tells you to visit Lawton's! Make sure to pack heat in Law-town though and if you drive a Honda, consider it stolen.

Off topic, but when are we having a New England MSH skate? I'd love to get together and do one sometime.
