JJ Thompson94 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 I went to the Rangers home opener today and I wanted to go into Cosbys like I always do, and they were closed and had a sign that said they moved. Does anyone know why? What the hell happened? I Can't imagine what would be there instead of Cosbys. It's a bit depressing.

WhiskeyTango19 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 Wow... I'm with you. Can't imagine an MSG trip without the customary Cosby's walkthrough. JJ, did the sign say where they moved to? Does anyone else have any insight?
twister18 1 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 from cosby's website: "Dear Loyal Customers,After over 30 years in the lobby of Madison Square Garden, Gerry Cosby & Co., Inc.'s New York City location is moving! Our new store will be located just around the corner at 11 Penn Plaza (on 31st Street, just East of 7th Ave.). We are looking forward to opening at our new location this Fall - keep checking this site for updated information." any of you remember the store they used to have in princeton forrestal center in jersey? that place was awesome back in the day, huge store, had a whole basement "stick room" back in the days when the Easton aluminum shafts just came out.....damn I miss that place

boganz45 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2008 Yeah, I tried to go there a couple weeks back and I talked to the security guard at the Garden - they moved across the street on 31st St. but they are not open yet as they're still in the process of moving everything over from their old location... JJ Thompson94 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2008 I can't imagine what will be there after the renovation. Probably some MSG owned shop only selling jerseys. Even worse...a knicks store...I'd flip my shit.
li7039 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2008 if you look at some of the renovation pics. I believe that whole area will be in the open. Just the penn plaza building will be there.

JJ Thompson94 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Thruthfully, I have no idea what I'm looking at. I can't see "old" MSG anywhere in there. Whatever, I don't even know why MSG needs to be renovated. Its not falling apart and is still one of the better places to watch an NHL game. All I know is I'm not excited to pay for this renovation, I'm paying enough as it is. Sometimes I wish the fans could get a vote on something like that. Lord ZipLock 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 I disagree MSG is the worst arena in the NHL i have been too its about time they fix it up, especially since we pay so much.
JJ Thompson94 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Roman, right... we pay so much but get ready to pay more.
Lord ZipLock 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Yea, and that's true as long as New York is a finical capital the ticket prices will almost always go up although you can get good deals for below face on stubhub ect now due to our current finical situation. Lord ZipLock 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 I have been to Nassau I had the WORST seats behind me was a brick wall LOL and the view was MUCH better than the 300's at the garden.
shooter27 117 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 I remember not that long ago reading about a proposal to build a new MSG on the site of the old post office across 8th avenue from the current site. Does this upgrade to the current MSG mean that project is officially dead?
VakarLajos 5 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 I disagree MSG is the worst arena in the NHL i have been too its about time they fix it up, especially since we pay so much.drive a hour into LI. That the worse. The only thing the Coliseum has over MSG is the sight-lines. Excluding the top 3 rows of the building the sight-lines are very good. The steep grade allows you to see above the person in front of you. MSG is not nearly as clear. With that said, unless it's a NYI/NYR, NYI/NJ or holiday game there is little to no atmosphere in Nassau.

JR Boucicaut 3805 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 Part of the renovation is providing better sightlines in certain sections.
DarkStar50 679 Report post Posted October 13, 2008 MSG sightlines suck. Players will skate into the corners and you will not see them. If you are ever in MSG for your first Rangers game be prepared for this! Fortunately, the fans and atmosphere in MSG make up for this big problem.

Does this upgrade to the current MSG mean that project is officially dead?Yea its officially dead would of been a good move oh well.MSG's plans for that new arena were hinged on the city building Monyahan station under that old post office, then renovating penn station. The new garden would have been over Monyahan station. With the economy and costs of building Monyahan station there are huge delays and large things are being cut. The dolans didn't want to wait and depend on the city, so they just went ahead with renovating the current garden.PS: Mods should probably move this to general hockey as where the conversation is going.
