hollweg again!

Recommended Posts

i am watching the leaf game, and once again hollweg hammers someone from behind.... when is enough enough? the leafs are playing well, and this just kills them. five minute penalty to kill off. and as i am sitting here typing this messages the blues get themself right back into the game. they blew a three goal lead.... just bs...

i don't remember him being such a meat sauce. ever since he got slashed in the face he thinks everyone is out to get him! the leafs don't need that type of player on their team. they need a physical player, who stirs shit up but its hard to jump in for a team mate after he almost crippled a guy

Did anyone catch the intermission report? Marc Moro (I think) brought up a pretty good point. Pietroangelo saw Hollweg coming and did nothing but turn his head. He really should have braced himself for a hit, or at the very least, not turn his head. That said, it was definitely a boarding. Kinda have to wonder if Hollweg's reputation played a big factor on giving him a game. And for the record I'm not a fan of Hollweg yet. That play let the Blues back into the game.

i think because Hollweg has done that so much so early on in the seasons they were harder on him. if you saw the hit stajan took from behind that was worse! either way hopefully hollweg gets his head in the game or he will get hurt, or ride the pine soon

Yeah he probably shouldn't have turned his head but I don't think he was expecting to be hit from behind. How many times has this been that Hollweg has hit someone from behind now?

Yes, he should have braced, but if he had Hollweg would have hit him anyway. THAT's the point. If Pietrangelo braces, he takes a nasty, illegal hit, exchanges the possibility of a major injury for a more likely minor injury or at least a 'hurt' that'll slow him up for a shift or two, but completely forfeits the possibility of drawing a penalty and cuts into his ability to make a puck-play. Hollweg knows exactly what he's doing when he runs people. He's attempting to intimidate them into being lesser players out of fear for their safety. He doesn't deserve the automatic three - he deserves about thirty. He's playing outside the rules in order to make up for the fact that he's a borderline AHL player out of his depth: he can't even fight regularly.

Maybe Backes should have lit him up again as a remidner...

He can fight regularly, he just can't win them. Assuming that Pietrangelo did in fact see Hollweg coming, he really needs to brace himself and expect to get hit. I'm not sure if that is a rookie mistake or him just not thinking, but he put himself in a bad situation. Had he braced himself against the boards the hit wouldn't have been bad. I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean, but there is no reason for anyone (especially someone thought of as a franchise player) to try to draw a major penalty and risk a serious injury. A thirty game suspension (which would be the longest in NHL history?) would be outrageous. He'll get between 3-5 games and that is probably sufficient. It was a dangerous play, but from my point of view (and I haven't seen a good replay of it yet) it occurred because of mutual actions. Hollweg has that role on the Leafs where the only way he dresses is if he goes out, hits everything in site, and stirs shit up. If he fails to do that he won't play. Its a tough situation for him because if he makes a habit of laying off hitting people he'll be stuck in the press box.

I was being a bit hyperbolic with 30, I admit - what I meant was a deterrent suspension, rather than a simply punitive one. He has not and will not learn until he's hit with something massive; he'll continue to recklessly endanger better players in the league (ie. everyone) until he's put in a coma or convinced that it's a huge detriment to his career.

I also wasn't talking strictly of 'drawing the penalty' but of the total situation. By lining up the guy from behind, and intending to follow through, Hollweg is creating a situation where the *only* way he loses is if he gets a major penalty or worse. If the guy braces, he still rattles him, possibly hurts him with the hit, and makes him a less effective player by taking his focus off the play; Hollweg sucks him down to his level. What Pietrangelo did was to ignore Hollweg, force his hand, and go ahead with the play he wanted to make. Sure enough, the idiot ran him, gave up a powerplay that St. Louis scored three times on, and got himself suspended.

If the Leafs are lucky, Steve Downie will injure Hollweg but I wouldn't bet on it. Hollweg has no business wearing an NHL uniform. Ryan Hollweg is in the bottom 5 of NHL players and I don't even know who the other 4 are.

In the words of Andrew Dice Clay (directed at Maple Leafs): "She's your problem now! YOU deal with her my friend!"

I would have been happy with a broken Gatorade machine for Hollweg. I can't believe any GM in the league could look at Hollweg and say, "Yeah, he looks good. He'll make a GREAT addition to our team!"

+1 on that. Watching Hollweg play as badly as he does and still keep a roster spot year after year makes me think there is still a shot even I can make the show!

He keeps his job because he's willing to hurt people for a paycheck.
