helmet comfort

Recommended Posts

my bauer 5000 is getting a little old after 6 years or so. the padding is still fine but is starting to slide around a little in the back part. i only noticed because i felt some glue on my fingers and wondered what the hell was that. my helmet does cause minor headaches sometimes so i thought i'd look for reviews here and browse online. i saw some pretty expensive helmets out there. the bauer 9500 looks great but at almost 200 bones is waaaay too much for mens league/pickup hockey. the mission fusion looks like it has more comfort foam than the others but chad's review was not overly glowing. the cheaper, old foam is too hard and the new FXPP is too expensive. any other recommendations?

I just got the Easton s9, and I think it is a great helmet. Looks nice, comfy dual VN, not bad ventilation, and very reasonable price ($59 I think).

I have read that others like the s9 too. Or you can always go with the standby 4500 too.

if your going to spend money on equipment the 2 pieces you should spend money on are your helmet and skates

skate fit and helmet are price less IMHO

A little? Six years old is pretty far past recommended helmet replacement times. Do you feel pressure in any specific areas while wearing the helemt? Also your headaches might be partly attributable to the hardening of the gel used in the padding, this is a pretty common occurrence with the 5000, especially one of this age.
