Name the Bands

Over the last 2 days...with the help of 8 or 9 co-workers...we're up to 179 of 270 bands. Let's see how MSH does with it.

i did a quick run through and got like 20. not good. i didnt know how to spell a few but still, i clearly need to catch up on my bands.

Out of the crew we had going at work on it (keep in mind...it's a radio station, so we're kinda at an advantage) range in age from 24-mid 50's.

I do know that there are a LOT of British bands...and WAY too many Boy Bands.

I got 124 by myself. I am embarrassed at how much MTV I watched as a kid. Just ashamed I knew the Communards and Fat Boys among others. Not a good childhood I guess.

I wil admit, I had to look up how to spell some of them.

A guy came up with that name...but we couldn't get the spelling right...I guess one of the guys is also in Bronski Beat...right? Up to this point, we've had a rule that we can't look to other sources for clues...or spellings.

I told him yesterday..."I'll post it on Mod Squad...those guys will fill it in no time" (given the age range and being from all over the world). He wouldn't let me...had to wait 'til we had exhausted our staff at work. *L*

Posting this wasn't so we could fill the sheet...I figured it would be fun to see how everyone does with it...if I was down to 3-4 maybe...but I'm not gonna post the 90+ we still need.

Although I will say #115 and #164 are really bugging me...I figure bands that goofy looking shouldn't be this hard to place...Surely I've heard of/seen them before...but no luck on a name.

I think the test would be more skewed toward music fans like myself from Ireland, or others from England and the area. A lot of the US bands were fairly mainstream over with us, but the british bands, while big at home were not big over here.

How many of you, in terms of general pop music would know Skunk Anansie, or the Manic Street Preachers, where they were big names at home (and skunk are also excellent)

I highly recommend going out and buying the album Stoosh, by skunk anansie.

You're right. I've heard of both of those bands, but have only heard MSP, yet I've never seen a picture of either of them until tonight.

I've been able to get 82 so far. It's interesting how they've used later pictures for some of the bands, so we have to age them in our minds.

I'm only 20 so I'm not going to lie, not only have I probably ever heard 1/2 of those bands, I definitely haven't seen them.

From what I did know though without snooping and looking around, I got 33 correct. I was actually amazed I got that many.

Well, not all of us work at Radio's station, so we can try to figure this among ourselves. However, to give people the fun of getting some on their own, we won't put names yet.

EDIT: I added the list later in the thread with the names. These are the ones still missing. If you want to PM or post the ones you have, I'll add them to the list. By the way, some of you may be too young to get this reference, but I'm quite sure we're going to have a lot of V8 moments when we're told some of the bands!

LkptTiger sent me six I didn't have, two of which were V8 moments. In one case, I had the right band, but didn't misspell their name properly -- that's cryptic.... -- and, in the second case, I kept thinking, "Man, I know I've seen that guy before."

I also added the 10's to make it easier to count when editing.

I was able to get 38....

and I know of at least 4 or 5 bands that have got to be on there somewhere, just can't picture them/find them.
