Check around if you know anyone that gets discounts. I'm still in need of one and with my work or school's discount that first 12" iBook would cost me roughly $1100. $79 to have iWork pre-loaded.

I would go with the powerbook, no doubt. Apple offers student discounts which can save you a couple hundred dollars.
