lie confusion

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

So from searching through past topics/posts, there is obviously a great deal of discussion/confusion when it comes to stick/blade lies across the various manufacturers. Include me in that mix! That said, as a tall player (6'2" off skates) who prefers a shorter stick (between 2-3 inches below the chin on skates), I prefer a higher lie. My question is, what pattern(s), obviously excluding the now, what seems to be, discontinued Bonk and Peca, have the TRUEST high lies? Is, or are, there any patterns that truly measure greater than 6? Please let us know. I would like to use either a 6.5 or 7 lie if I can find one!

This wouldn't be the first time lies have created confusion...

Sadly, I can't help, since anything under a 13.5 lie feels bizarre to me anyway.

Best thing to do is figure out what length of stick you need/want. Then find the lie that puts however much blade you want on the ice. Cutting sticks to make the wrong lie work is not the best solution.

Lots of 6 lie at retail, nothing much taller than that. You might be able to find pro stocks with a higher lie. My Lang pro blades are ~6.5, I love them dearly.

Pro stock might be a good option. A 7 lie is not unusual for a pro.

Can you purchase "pro stock" blades/patterns from any of the popular online retailers (HockeyGiant, HockeyMonkey, etc.)?

I can't recall coming across the option to buy pro stock as opposed to retail blades?

And the MSH pattern database does not list pro stock pattern lies, correct?

Let me know. Thanks!!

HockeyMonkey has a solid selection of pro stock replacement blades but they do NOT list the blades' respective lie values, not to mention the website's link to contact customer service by email has been broken for some time now.

http://www.hockeymonkey.com/pro-mission-re...ent-blades.html

Does anyone know of a resource(s) where I can find the lie values for these pro stock blades?

Just found HockeyMonkey's email... info@hockeymonkey.com.

There are far too many variations of most pro patterns for us to list them all.

When trying to find blades with a lower lie than what I currently have (Sherwood Crosby), should I go by the MSH pattern database rather than what the online retailers say? Even among one company (CCM, for example), some curves are listed at different lies in the database versus online stores, while others are listed at the same lie. Why do companies have to make this so difficult?

Manufacturers all use different standards when measuring. We try to compare them using Easton blades as our standard since they have been the number one company in sticks for years.
