I used to have way too many pieces of gear, so much so that I outfitted two of my buddies in complete sets of gear from my stash complete with skates, visored helemts, and everything.

I am now down to just one of everything so I have one complete set of gear for me, but have started a new warchest of sticks that my wife is none to pleased with...and now I have a new pair of skates on order, so I will have two pair (although the old pair will probably never see the ice or my feet ever again)

I think alot of us are always looking for the next best thing on the market. I know me and a couple buddies are real bad about it.

My name is Magnanto, and I am a gearaholic.

Let's see, where do I start. Skates are a big problem, so are sticks (see below). Was wearing Shatslivy (spell?) Pro ccm 1052 whites, size 10 with a 296 tuuk holder, I loved them. After they were done, my quest for the right skate took some time, and still is... In the last 6 years I have purchased Bauer 8000's size 10, but the holder was a 288, not a 296, so forget them after 5 skates. Sold them. Then bought CCM Pro Tacks size 10.5, had 295 holders, but insisted on changing them to 296 Tuuk Lightspeeds, but the guy installed them a bit farther back than I liked, so forget them. Still have them. I then bought pro skates from the Montreal sale, size 9 3/4 Vapor 10's with a white tuuk 296 holder. Impulse purchase, and sold them to a friend. Then found another pair of Shatslivy white 1052 ccm's, wore them for 3 years and loved them, but they started to come apart. Mostly the holder from the boot. Still have them. Then I ordered custom Vapor 40's, size 9 3/4 with a 296 holder. Pretty good but not the older style size 10 ccm with the 296 holder. Wore them up until a month ago, but due to injuries will have to wait. The 40's are fantastic skates, but not enough to fix my 'problem'.

Soooo, I had to give up my spot on two good teams this year because I wouldn't qualify for the playoffs (and will be in Australia for a month during playoffs). But did this stop me from buying new skates? Nope. As I said, I got injured, have a separated shoulder and a broken rib. I don't even have a year on my custom Vapor 40's and I just bought a pair of Kor Shift 2's. And I'm pretty sure I'll be ordering myself a pair of custom X-60's when they come out.

Did I mention I have 14 composite sticks? Several Warrior dolomites, an AK-27, Bauer XXX lite, a TPS R8, 2 TPS adrenaline controls, 2 RBK 7k's, and 4 Easton S17's for crying out loud. What is wrong with me?

If there is a bigger problem out there, I'd love to see it. And this is not a competition, I just want to know I'm not f*(%^d. Perhaps this will confirm that I am. Thanks.

Magnanto.

I'll take those skates with no axles, thanks.

You interested in a right HE950 skate with a perfect condition mg chassis? I've found axles for that!

I need to start clearing out the closet... My income is cut off and hockey gear holds value a little worse than old fruit. All you stick guys keep an eye on the Sell section for ~10 to pop up in the next week.

I'll stick with my two sets of Eagles and ~6 sticks for the time being, the pro stocks that I won't use and old gloves I can't move will be retired to the back room.

I have tons of gear. For me, buying sticks is like women in a huge shoe store having a huge sale haha ;). But i keep finding top of the line sticks (S17's, SE16, TPS, One90, One95, U+, plus older year's top of the line sticks) for cheap. If i find a great deal, ill pick it up. I now have 2 S17's (paid $150 for both) a One90, One95 (paid $250 for both). And i have a ton more! My closet is so full of sticks that just sit there and collect dust and im trying to sell some :P haha. I also have a huge stock of gloves and only use one pair. haha.

So yes i am one of those guys that just buys gear when i dont need it, and of course, when i need something, i never have any extra of it :P haha

from earlier in the thread....

I wonder what the current buzz count is.

Buzz doesn't have anything on Ponty.

Ponty's stick collection would bring a tear to Drew's eye.

I remember his pictures after he got rid of most of his stash. Still had more stick than a lot of stores I've been in.

From the last pic I recall him having under 50 sticks... but once a gear whore, always a gear whore. I bet it's grown since.

No, you would know if you had seen it. We're talking more than 300 sticks.

He put up at least 8 pictures, and they were all different.

Any chance those pics might still be around some where...?

even though i'm only 17 this has been a problem for a long time, skates are my vice. i've had custom vapor xxx's and xxxx's, along with grafs as well as reebok 9k's, saw the white, had to buy them. that is over the past 3 years, 1.5 of which i have missed due to knee surgery, yet that didn't stop me from getting myself one of the few pairs of the mission NME skates on wednesday. even though i can't skate until april. sticks are almost as bad if not worse. i am up to about 25 ops and two piece top of the line sticks and i know that isn't much compared to some on MSH but i have a feeling i may be adding to the collection soon.

Good lord, after reading some of these testimonials I don't feel that bad about the amount of equipment I now own. Mind you I realized long ago I needed to stop buying on impulse and I guess I'm pretty well set for at least the next five years. I still like to hang out at the LHS and see the new equipment coming in though. Whatever spare stuff I had lying around is sold or donated to a hockey foundation to equip people who have problems affording good equipment. Unless something comes out to significantly improve my game or performance this guy's done flashing the plastic to get the lastest new craze out there. In the long run nobody really cares what make or model you wear ,or have, anyway so long as it does what it was designed for.

I've got a particularly expensive problem: skates. I am always looking for a better fitting pair. It's impossible for me to tell how they'll really feel on the ice by just trying them on in the shop. I've had pretty good luck selling nearly new skates on ebay, but still of course take a hit, and it does all add up. I've got fairly low volume feet, but relatively wide in the forefoot, etc. I see a lot of guys that seem to just wear a pair of skates forever, and I wish I could find a pair that I'd feel like doing that with.

Serious I thought I was bad cause I got 8 pairs of skates.

Some of you need to seek help. Sales are definetly my crack. I dont need it, but come on its 70% off and I may need it one day in a jam or have a buddy who needs x item.

i am nowhere near the same league as many that have posted.

i don't buy much new, but i'm a thrift store junkie and ebay somewhat (used to also be play-it-again when they had a half decent supply of used equipment at a reasonable price).

i have two full sets of players equipment plus some extra. except for the jocks, one pair of pants and one helmet, all was bought used. i can say the extra set comes in handy the rare time i'm in a tournament or playing a game the next day - always have something dry.

my real obsession is hockey jerseys - not sure how many i have - 50+.

get them from thrift stores, ebay, and have another guy i trade jerseys with.

occasionally make my own crests and numbers for jersey with tackle twill - mostly duplicating simple old team crests and sometimes putting crests over a good jersey that has a crappily designed screen printed logo.

I don't know exactly how i caught the gear whore disease... but it definitely happened within the last 3 months. about 3 months ago i purchased a new helmet to replace my aging $20 CCM. i finally decided on an 8500 in red after agonizing decision of what color scheme to go with. i then bought red supreme pants and some red fuel 130 to complement my red helmet. i figured that's it i'm done.

... 3 months later and my mindset has completely changed. now i'm on my way to having setups in red, black, and blue... if i go out and buy a white helmet to match my away jerseys just throw me in gear whore rehab and toss away the key

another funny example of gear whorage... i recently found a pair of my elusive 9025 jofa elbows in my size! and even better they were only $15 US from a website!!! its almost too good to be true. so when i go checkout, the shipping comes out to $60!! holy crap i thought that is too expensive! then i start to wonder if that shipping charge is per item, or whether it is a flat fee... i start adding stuff to my basket. sure enough, its a flat fee. so buying $15 elbow pads doesnt really make good economic sense. but buying $15 elbow pads, $20 shin pads, $50 helmet, and $50 gloves makes it a pretty sweet deal! sigh....

I have one set of everything I need, but I'm very picky about my skates. Sticks, gloves, etc I don't have any problem with buying, it's the skates that I'm stuck on. I had Tacks for years, then changed to CCM externos. The externos broke down pretty quick so I bought Supreme 70's that I was never happy with. Sold them and bought some Graf Supra g35's and about two weeks after my purchase I found some CCM Pro Tacks in my size. So I've got 2 pairs of skates in my possession (well close to 2 pairs, I get the Tacks in a couple days) and that's about it. If the Tacks fit like I want them to, the Grafs will probably never be worn again.

I feel a lot better about my spending habits after reading this thread :P

So I started playing street/dek hockey last year, I decided that I wanted to play ice so I started picking up a few things. Elbow pads, shin guards, pants, new stick.

Well come a few months ago I started to play ice and bought a whole new set of gear since my old stuff was outdated. I gave my old stuff to my brother who is just going to start playing soon.

Right now I just got about 5 sticks and an extra pair of gloves more than my "set"

But I cant stop shopping for stuff. I already have a pair of Warrior gloves but now I want some warrior customs

I didn't start down the gear whore road til I worked in a shop. Goddamn this job is bad for my wallet. Replaced pants (twice), skates, gloves, helmet (twice), jock, pick up jersey, stick (two). I also get sharpen my skates a lot more often than I would have otherwise.

So basically everything but my shoulders, elbows and shins.

I buy sticks like it's nobody's business, at one point i had 7 S17, 2 of which were pro stocks, 2 Easton SE, 3 SE16, a TPS R8, a XXXX Pro Stock, an S15 2 piece setup. But then i sold most of them off, now I only have 2 SE16, 1 S17, and a xxxx Pro Stock that i'm selling...however I'm planning on buying the new Dolomite or the Dolosnype
