crazy-luke-finch 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 I got some money for christmas and need some new elbow pads, shin guards and gloves but im having a hard time finding anything. For starters, i went to my LHS and tried on some stuff but didn't really find anything i liked.Elbow pads - I tried on around 5 pairs and my favorite were the Vector 8's. They were comfy and mobile but they felt VERY bulky so are there any other elbow pads with a similar fit that arent as bulky?Shin guards - I have quite wide calfs and had a problem finding a pair that actually fit in the first place. The best fitting ones i could find were the Vapor XVI's but the "extended calf wing" really did stick out like an airplane wing when id put them on. So, are there any other shin guards with a similar fiit that arent as bulky and dont have wings.Gloves - There were no gloves at my LHS apart from some prehistoric TPS gloves, some mission gloves fuel 60's and some warrior fubars. I didn't like any of those at all. I like quite a tight fitting glove but not one90, or easton stealth tight. I have tried on a pair of RBK 6Ks and they felt OK, but the palm was really tight against my hand. So could anyone recommend a pair of gloves for me?Any help is greatly appreciated.thanks. -knowlzey- 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 If yo're looking for a skimpy elbow pad, I loved the one75, they did the trick and they weren't bulky at all. Unfortunately however they didn't last too long becase the material attaching the two parts of the elbow pad ripped, and after stitching them twice I got fed up. Chadd 916 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 Itech shin guards tend to be pretty wide and deep. I have massive calfs and they fit me quite well. I also cut off the bicep protection on any elbow pad that I use. I get the protection on the lower arm without doubling up on my upper arm with my shoulder pads. Jackal_17 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 You might want to try the Warrior Franchise narrow fit gloves. They are tight fitting and have very soft, supple, broken in palms.
mickz 107 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 I just bought the Vapor XXXX shins and the calf wing sticks out on mine as well... you could give the Supremes a shot but they are a bit wider in the knee cap I hear.
adam14 182 Report post Posted December 28, 2008 for elbows, i use the fuel90's by mission, quite comfortable, plus they have a band to keep them in place. for gloves i could recommend the tps R8 lites, got a pair for christmas and couldnt be happier. tight fitting, but still looser then the one90's i wore previously. jsmart 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 love Eagle gloves (PPFs in particular)...as mentioned above the NBH Supremes are nice knees and I have the 50's they fit real well and I have tree trunk legs...I can't help on the elbows...I've been through a number of them and the RBKs are the best I can do since they are the only XL in the business and I did cut the bicep pads off a pair of Synergys and they worked ok for me...Good luck
duckjob 1 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 I'll second the Itech protective. I've got large calves and forearms and the 955 shins and elbows fit great. The 655 and 455 series both seem to offer a pretty good bang for the buck. I had the one90's previous to those and found them to be too narrow for me. budro727 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 I have the 9K elbows and I love them. Very protective, yet very mobile.
Leafsrok 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 I also reccomend Reebok elbow pads. I've had Jofa's for about 3 years now, and they've been the best elbow pads I've ever owned. Comfortable, mobile, not bulky at all, and very protective. As far as shin pads go, i love my Sher-Wood 5030 classics, but I wouldn't say they're the widest out there. Definitely no winging issue on them so I might take a look at them anyways if that's a big problem for you.For gloves, I'd try something from the Vapor series because they're kind of a happy medium between the 4 rolls and the Supreme line. They give a decent ammount of room in the cuff, and the hand/fingers are kind of mid-tight.
roller to ice 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 I have the vapor xxv shin guards and had the wing dillema at first as well. But after a few sessions at open hockey with clear tape they molded to my leg more.
xstartxtodayx 343 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 I have the Vector 08 elbow pads and love them. They're the best fitting elbow pad I've found in over 15 years. The ones I have are not bulky at all so maybe try on a size smaller for comparison? As far as shin guards go, did you try the RBK/Jofa line? I've worn Jofa's for a long time and have always loved the way they fit and felt, I just picked up a pair of the RBK Fitlite 5k's and can tell they've made a lot of improvements since my last pair which was bought 7-8 years ago. kayhat12 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 So it has been a few years since I have bought skates. I was just wondering about size differences. I currently wear a 10D in bauer. Do you think I could fit into a size 9.5D in CCM Vector V10.0 skates? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Datsyukrulez13 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 i dont know if they are tight fit, but the Vapor series gloves are pretty nice
leonzhu 7 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 the vapor gloves are NOT tight fit, i have a pair of Supreme 30s and a pair of Vapor XVIs, both 13" and the supremes definitely feel tighter. Prefer the space of the Vapors though, gives me the feeling of not wearing gloves!
Datsyukrulez13 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2008 my bad then, i just thought that because the padding feel amazing
Hazard14 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2008 The new Vapor gloves are tighter fitting then most gloves if I'm not mistaken, but the supreme line is tighter fitting.
SolarWind 23 Report post Posted December 30, 2008 retail (not pro which I found to be a bit looser fitting) version of XXXX gloves is pretty tight fitting - I found them to be almost as tight (if not the same) as One90
Datsyukrulez13 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2008 The Vapor series dont look like tight fit gloves, but the padding inside is what makes it tight (IMO)
