Wanting to play again...

Recommended Posts

hey, so i haven't played hockey since i was like 6 and after that my entire family moved to hong kong for like 10 years...so we just moved back to TO and i'm wanting to start again and i just have some questions. i've been real interested in hockey equipment for awhile now (i don't know why) and i know my way around them and how to buy etc. etc.

anyways i was wondering if anyone can tell me what difference does a square toe or a round toe affect your play...i've also seen some blades with a "rounded square toe" and how does that affect your play...

i could be wrong but i've seen a blade that the top is a square toe but the bottom corner is a rounded square...so i'm really confused on this part

i know its all personal preference but it still makes a slight difference in some areas

oh and if u need to know...i play wing, my games all about speed, and i mainly do wrist/snappers

thx ^^

I do a lot of snappers and I find a square toe doesn't give you enough balance/leverage on your shots compared to the rounded toe. Rounded toes are also better (for general users) for toe-drags, however I do know a guy who's got a great toe drag and he has a square toe. Most people use rounded toes though...

I thought there was something about square toe being good for digging the puck off the boards...

Yep, D mans blade is square toe-suposed to help in handling puck on the boards. Lidstrom curves have the square toe in Eastons.

Square toe is also supposed to be better for faceoffs. A lot of guys like Adam Oates would cut the end of their stick off to square it up and said it helped them with faceoffs.

aight thx guys =) i bought a pro stock 7k Sickick...80 bucks not bad....and i use pretty straight blades since i never had trouble lifting the puck...its a D17 i think...mid, moderate curve..neutral face...round toe...

anyways do any of you have any idea what a rounded square would do? also i heard square toes are better for slappers

It definitely helps stiffen up the blade which would work wonders for repeated faceoffs. If anyone here has seen Nylander's stick, he has a square top toe and an extremely round bottom toe. Not sure why though, obviously it helps him in some aspect of his game.

That's not why Oates cut the toe of his blade. He received a bad batch and he needed to use them so he cut them. Ended up liking it and stuck with it til the end of his career.
