National Sports Winter Meltdown Clearance Sale

Recommended Posts

Usually, National Sports is ridiculously overpriced, even with their sale. However, if you have one of those $10 over $50 spent, it might make it a little more worthwhile.

You sure about that comment? "National Sports is ridiculously overpriced" i think you might want to check the local Pro Shops.

Unless you know the owner or are buying a full set of gear they are higher in price! Plus the Waterloo store has the clearance section in the back with some amazing deals.

In reality, it should be "Buying hockey gear in Canada" is ridiculously overpriced, but that has already been beaten to death.

Lately however, I have noticed that the prices at Pro Hockey Life have been much better than the Forzani offerings, and even the smaller shops around me and PIAS have consistently lower prices than National.

1M a month is big ticket rent for a single location for Hockey Life, so the register needs to constantly ring. Therefore they have different thinking when pricing certain products.

I didn't find Hockey Life to be priced all that well. To be honest, their Boxing Week sale was a joke. I bought a Vapor XXXX girdle and shell, with absolutely no discount. Add to the fact that the girdle was grossly oversized, and that they were reluctant to order me the right size and there is a problem. I did, however, get the needed size, and at an $11 reduction in price after two weeks. I was so happy, I spent $5 of the $11 on the shooting machine...

Nothing like a nice vague statement. No store will be the best price in everything. Nor will they have the lowest price a particular item, that is why stores have different names and buy different product.

Sale includes:

RBK branded product has been reduced to clear

MIA, Warrior, TPS, CCM, RBK, Mission & Sherwood gloves are 30% off lowest ticket - it worth a trip to the store, and you likely find some well below cost.

Sounds to me like this is going to turn into a Bash Forzani and be a Pro Hockey Life thread.

If thats the case lets stop it now!

Never in my post did I "bash" Forzani, I was merely stating that I have seen much better prices at places other than National Sports lately.

I have received excellent service at National Sports in the past, I really don't have anything against National Sports or any other Forzani store. Sorry if the tone of my post came across that way.

It wasnt so much your post but yours and the other one stating they were over priced. If you happen to be there at the right sale you will find prices are pretty much equal all the way around.

I had excellent service by two different people this weekend at national sports (erin mills location). I went in the morning, tried on atleast 6 pairs of skates. Left for a bit without buying anything, came back in the afternoon, tried on another 4 pairs of skates, before finding the perfect ones. Had them baked and sharpened.

Hockey Life (mississauga) has also given me excellent service on the multiple occasions i've gone.

Sportchek on the other hand....

I check out the Waterloo National Sports often. The clearance stuff in the back is mostly clothes and shoes, not so much hockey equipment. There's a corner for clearance hockey stuff (skates on the tables and pads at the very edge with a rack of sticks). The Waterloo National had the Mission Z-2 stick at 149.99 on clearance. When there is a sale, the items are bumped back to regular price and then marked down to 20-30%. Which, doesn't really save that much.

I think my statement before is a little exaggerated and I do apologize for that, but as a consumer, I would look for the best quality and value that I could find. From a pricing standpoint, I have brought some cheap gear from National before but those are rare. However, National usually offer great service and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. So all in all, as per every consumers' wish, I would hope that National would lower the price of the products but continue to provide excellent service.

OldTrainerGuy28 - So, if someone has had a bad - or overpriced - experience at one of these stores they aren't allowed to share it simply because you don't approve or don't want them to? You are laughable.

That's so unbelievably retarded, it borders on fascist.

There is a difference between sharing a single bad experience or commenting that you found an item cheaper somewhere else and some of the blanket statements.

First of all I have no issue with people saying that it happens. But knowing both sides and working in a Source store for 9 years and Forzani for another 5 and being independent before that I know what things cost to whom and how much they sell things for.

I also know some people sell things below costs because of certain situations such as they own the building so rent is out of the picture.

I really have no issue with anyone making a comment such as they did but that was a pretty wide brush about pricing.

As for the service I never once made a comment about the poor service they may have received. That in part is my fault for not doing better in the training Dept.

You Sir have a nice day !!!
