shipping sticks to Australia

Recommended Posts

i had shipped a OPS to fatwabbit in australia (from USA) via USPS a few days ago. today it was returned to me. USPS says that they cannot ship boxes longer than 42" long to australia. apparently the person at the post office entered the information incorrectly, and they are not allowed to ship oversized to australia. (supposedly they can only ship oversized packages to like 15 countries, not including australia) FedEx and UPS were both over $200, so that's not an option. has anyone else shipped a stick to australia? how did you do it?

I was in a similar situation but with Canada Post when I was shipping a stick to someone in England. I took the measurements at home and got a quote on shipping online. At the Post Office the clerk there said it was an oversized item and they won't take it. He told me to go the Fedex Route and they wanted $160 for shipping! No Thanks!

I ended up printing my own shipping label online and then attached it to the stick. I dropped it off at the Post Office and it was smooth sailing from there.

thanks for the reply. i dont know if that will work. the hurdle wasn't getting past the post office clerk... it had already shipped... it was turned around a few days after the shipping process began... i imagine it was rejected at the airport (i'm only an hour away from the airport USPS uses as their hub).

still working on at least getting my money back.

I've run into the same problem and as far as I know there is not a way to get ops to Australia or NZ in a cost effective manner. And I tried just about every shipping service that I could find on the net.

I shipped about 6 sticks and some other gear to Australia early last year via FedEx and I only paid $156 USD. I usually do a large team order to help keep the costs down.

Do you know by how much you're over for the "oversized" restriction? If it's just a couple inches maybe get in touch w/ the buyer and see what length stick he uses, maybe you can trim a couple inches off the top of the shaft and then re-pack it to squeeze under the size restriction... just a thought, in a perfect world it just may work. Good luck.

I just shipped a one piece to Fatwabbit in Australia USPS (hope you got it?!). I had to come back with smaller packaging after they rejected my first attempt. Basically had to take off the cardboard i had around it and just bubble wrap everything and then I taped over that for good measure. They accepted it at my local post office after measuring again.

As Kev usual supplier he knows that getting OPS to him is problematic at best. He is a good guy and will most likely understand if you cannot get it to him. In my experience clearing the desk clerk is not enough as it is passed along the shipping chain. Keep all receipts, delivery confirmation notes, and insurance info. Expect that the OPS might come back days-weeks later if it does not make out of the country.

I have had the same problem in attempts to send to GB as well OZ

i used a rectangular box that i received from a previous stick order from hockeymonkey. it's 67x9x4, which is pretty snug. maybe if i do something along the lines of bubble wrapping and taping, they'll be more likely to accept it? BUT, the length was the main problem. they said they will not accept packages over 42" long, AND must be under 79" in length + girth (girth = wrapping a tape around the "shaft" dimensions). if i did the bubble wrap thing, i'm sure they still wont accept it, because it'll still be over 42".

Guys, I'm heading over to New York in March and was intending buying a couple of sticks.

I had thought about shipping them back home to the UK via USPS, and hopefully avoiding any import taxes etc, but if there is a chance they would be sent back it would be a pretty unreliable option as I wouldn't have anywhere to return them to, since I would be back in the UK.

Has anyone had any experience in bringing them back on your flight, what kind of cost would be involved, can you just turn up at the check in with them, and how likely are you to get stung by tax etc.

I ship overseas all the time using USPS and have never had any problems like this thread is talking about.. I ship to Australia almost once a week or every couple weeks. Our stick boxes have a 9x2x66 measurement and we have never had anything come back to us. When i say we ship everywhere i mean everywhere. Not sure if you were using Express international shipping because if you were then thats where i could see you having a problem, i know with that service there is indeed size restrictions. We use Priority International and have never been refused!
