Fourth Line Grind 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 Hey all, I haven't played inline in around a year but we start in April and just curious as to what technique the pros and/or you guys use to tape your stick.
jpeaslee 30 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 I just like a real simple two strips of tape on front and backhand. I feel the tape on the bottom drags real bad.
Sotho 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 With a ball I don't tape at all, while with a puck i also avoid the tape on the bottom of the blade.
sectachrome 40 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 I just tape it like normal. The first time you use it just rub the bottom on the tile on the bench or something and it takes off all the stickyness.
deniro 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 For me, I use a composite blade and don't like the puck hitting the bare blade. I tape my stick just like I would for ice, but I then cut off the very bottom portion of the tape. This keeps it from sticking to or marking up the tiles while giving me a full blade's worthof tape. It really doesn't take very long after you get the hang of it.
interpathway 9 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 One horizontal strip on front and back where the puck is contacting the blade, secured by two wraps of tape a half inch from the toe. Looks clean and gets the job done.
fieldofdreams 0 Report post Posted January 29, 2009 One strip along the top, going around the toe for extra blade protection. Then I do horizontal strips along the blade, leaving the botton free. Followed up with a wrap along the heel to keep the tape down. Pics to follow when I go home.
ATLstealth09 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I usually don't like the bottom of my blade rubbing against anything, ice, tile, whatever, so I just give it the deluxe treatment with a quarter strip on bottom and toe to help the tape last longer, followed by the double layer wrap all the way down to the toe. Hoffer 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I tape it my stick normally the whole way up and cover the toe. Just before I play I rub the bottom on the ground a couple times.
Ozzman 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I used to cover the whole blade too, and like everyone else has been saying, rub the bottom of the stick on the floor to remove the sticky. But since July, I've just been putting two strips of tape on the front and back sides of the blade.
sectachrome 40 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 I like that wrapping it all the way around protects the bottom of the blade too. Though I doubt it really wears at all without it.
caldakid 0 Report post Posted January 30, 2009 i tape it normal then rub it to get it smooth, if i dont tape the bottom wears the hell outta the stick, bye bye OPSalthough i have found dolo's are money for sportcourt don't wear dont much at all
Okeetee 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 I play on sportcourt and tape the blade as I would on ice, but to prevent the resistance and stickiness on the bottom of the blade, I just apply a little bit of paraffin wax to the bottom and works like a charm. You don't prematurely wear out your tape and, if you use black tape, prevent your rink from getting unnecessary black streaks on it. Paraffin wax is the kind that's in blocks and can be bought at any grocery store. It's used for sealing jars and anything else that needs wax.
flyweightphantom 1 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 I just started taping mid to toe and using a razor blade to cut the bottom off then using some wax. Use to use 2 strips on front and back for a long time.
Brokensticks 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2009 Waxing the tape seems to me to keep the friction down as well as helps the tape last longer. Recently I've tried using a strip of electrical tape along the bottom of the blade because the cloth tape seems to wear out too fast and rip. Just run a strip of electrical tape centered on the bottom of the blade then tape over it with cloth tape as normal. Work in some wax and melt it in and I'm good to go. Seems to be working well for me on sport court so far.
zfyfe 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 i have been testing out the erik cole method for taping your stick (a link to see this can be found on the site),and it seems to be working really good my only worry has been the wear of the bottom of the blade but after 4 games the tape is fine and the bottom of the blade is ok
interpathway 9 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Are you using the really thick tape that Cole is using?edit: By thick I mean wide.

interpathway 9 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 The reason he isn't putting tape on the bottom is to cut down on friction between his blade and the sport court.
sectachrome 40 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Well considering the friction caused by tape on the bottom of your blade is negligible, and he is worried about the bottom of his blade wearing down, I thought it may be a good idea to suggest.

A lot more friction.

interpathway 9 Report post Posted February 5, 2009 Yeah, my comment was just referencing the Cole tape job he was imitating. He just leaves the bottom 1/4" uncovered and just uses wax on it.
smtevo 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 By only using the tap horizontal along the blade will the blade of your stick wear out faster on sportcourt, or not so much?
Darshu 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2009 By only using the tap horizontal along the blade will the blade of your stick wear out faster on sportcourt, or not so much?Blade wear on sportcourt is pretty much negligible. Personally I tape my blade like normal and take a few shots in my garage (which removes all the tape on the bottom of the blade) and I'm good to go.
